RSR Project

Hi there,

Hi everyone, I'm very keen on building an RSR replica, however, I've been looking around for some old 911's and engines etc etc and I'm not too sure as to what year and what type of engine to go for? I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to what year and what engine is ideal for this project?? I'm not really that interested in restoring a car back to original spec, I just want to make it look like the RSR, with reasonable perfomance.

Thanks very much!

Hopefully to look something like this

I would try and find an 87-89 factory Turbo Look, then back date it. There are after market venders who sell all the glass conversion parts..
Check out Bam's 911, Longhood RSR F/S

went from..

To this....

Rsr

Hey there,

I've got my eye on a 911 that's for sale. It's a 1976, but it has an updated and rebuilt 3.2l engine that's got around 70,000 km's on it and is in good condition. Is this a good base to start from?

Thanks!

It's tough to say. There are many trade-offs with that particular car if you are going to turn it into a long-hood rsr (some of the frame sheet-metal is different, etc). Each model year has its own pros and cons as a starting point, with different looks, costs, weights, galvanized steel, etc. Since you're the one who's going to be making those trade-offs and living with your decision for a long time, I'd suggest you spend some time on this forum looking through some of the older posts to get a really good idea of what you're looking for before you buy a car. My first concern with a starting chassis is to insure it's solid with little to no rust.
