Please help with engine identificaiton #
The number of the engine in my 1987 930 is:
*B8H00280* Is this the correct engine for an '87 930 model? My VIN states that my 930 is #288. Thank you..

There is always extra prototypes made, rarely would the numbers all be the same.
Your vin is #288 for USA but there is also a 288 for ROW product |

I understand that my engine number #280 may not be the same as my VIN #288. I only wanted to confirm that my engine number appears to be correct for the 930 that I have.
Anyone?

an 87 Turbo should have an engine # starting at 68H00001. Your letter B might warrant a second look. Also look for the engine type # and it should be 930/68
You'll find the type number to the right of the engine # and behind it on the flat part of the engine. You might need some cleaner and a rag to expose it.

Thank you Tony..
You are correct. The engine # is 68H00280 and I do see the 930/68 stamp as well. So I can safely assume that I have the original engine in my 930?

It is the correct motor for the car. The only way to know for sure if it is the original is to get a COA from Porsche (NA). But I would think you have the original engine if there is no reason to think otherwise.
