Porting Period Radio for Ipod

I apologize in advance if these depths have been well sounded, but since the compact disc is going the way of the vinyl record I was wondering if there might be a commercial option for taking existing period radios and porting them for ipod? I would like nothing better than to return the original radio unit to my Carrera and purge the poor car of its wretched chrome faced aftermarket CD unit. Anyone know anything about this?

I have used the H-K Drive + Play. The interface isn't as slick as an iPod, and you have to find a place for the screen and scroll wheel, but you can wire it directly into the FM input of any radio (even one without aux input) and it's available for $39 plus another $6 for the cable.

You might check Becker and Blaupunkt for period correct radios that will have current technology. I have a modern Alpine ipod headunit with a chrome face and blue lights (just awful). A can of flat black spray paint cured the problem...just mask the digital display area and it actually blends in much better with the dash.
