Paint Code Question

Ok, I was looking in the Porshe Red Book trying to locate the number of Venetian Blue Targas were made. Anyway I saw Venetian Blue listed as a special option paint for the 3.2 Carreras but it was like paint code 35U or something. My paint code is L36P. I've had this mixed up and it does in fact match what is on the car. Paint shop said it was a VW color and he also mentioned it was Venetian Blue. What gives? Is the Red Book wrong or am I missing something about how the codes work? I'm a lil baffled. It's an 87 US spec by the way. I've found some pretty weird stuff with this car already and I am a little interested to see what's going on.

Call BASF at (800) 825-3000 and give them the paint # that is on the car, they will tell you what corresponds to the #. They may ask you if you own a repair shop, just make up a shop name. Porsche NA recommends this. Good luck.
