Yup... Quite the car !
I was at my local dealer today picking up a $2.34 dollar part for my brake line and the showroom had a few GT3's and GT2 Turbos !
Every color you could want

I'll go a step further and say the 3.2 , SC, and pre-SC 911S sound better

That's an extra cost option and is totally unecessary on the GT3 (it does get bundled with genuine performance advantages on every model, except the GT3)

porsche has spent big bucks on re-creating the air cooled boxer sound.
whether you prefer the original or the cover version then becomes a question of personal preference ... i'm quite happy with my 3.2

997Cup cars definitely have a high-pitched scream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/max_911_fahrer/3541185147/in/set-72157618398499726/

The air cooled cars are different: http://www.flickr.com/photos/max_911_fahrer/3608424515/in/set-72157619459994882/

You can browse those photo sets to find more cool videos and photos.
