im doing the distributor rebuild---NEED PART
im not getting much advance at all so i want to replace the vac advance only thing is NO ONE HAS IT....dealer says its NLA....no one local has it....ive even tried a few porsche only juny places???
\ WHAT TO DO??? my dizzy apart and i kinda need to drive this... any help would be great many thanks ![]() |

What distributor? What is the bosch number on the side?

i belive the part i need is 07180...or long # is 1-237-122-763 its the one with 2 vac ports.
Do people plug the retard one?? i thought i had read somewhere they make our engines run hot?? ![]() if so i can find the one with a single port ( i think ) |

I assume you mean an 82SC from your screen name. I have a vacuum module from a 78SC if that will work. PM and you can come by and pick it up.

Before you replace it, have you verified the advance mechanism is no good? Try reinstalling the distributor and hook up the vacuum port to a minivac or vacuum pump. Check with your timing light if you get advance when vacuum is applied.

yea i tested it and got no responce....
what do people do when these go out? are there rebuild kits, or something else would work?? i really dont want to have to buy a whole Distributor $$$$$ ANYONE?? ![]() |

You say distributor is apart meaning: you have cleaned and oiled the center bearing for the advance plate controlled by the vac pod?
Is the vac advance plate moving freely? If the bearing is frozen (rusted), the vac cannot move the advance. Mechanical advance: Are the weights moving the upper half of the shaft freely? No binding? Remove the vacuum pod: Put a short line on the advance connection and suck on it. Can you see and hear movement? Does the diaphragm hold the vacuum? Try this: Distributor service (Clean and lube) real easy without removing the pinion gear!

Are you sure the arm on the Vac Pod is connected to the advance plate?
It takes a little wiggling to get the tab into the pin. Take the cap and rotor off, suck on the advance vac line. You should see a small movement on the plate, not a lot. It also makes a klacking sound. If the diaphragm is good, the tip of your tongue in the line should be able to hold the vacuum. I usually do that before installing the distributor.

daily i hate to tell you this, but i think i got the last new one in exsistence. you can have my old one, holds good vac. on the adv. side, leak a little on the retard side, which is no big deal, since most plug it up anyway, sent you a pm

ur options are this. The Philbin Group in OR rebuilds them, about 90$
i just got mine back from them, havent installed it yet. right now im running a bosch vac pod off a mercedes i picked up at pick ur part. BTW pick ur part is an absolut CIS goldmine- everything!!!!. the benz one works ok, the advance came on a little fast so have some restrictors in the vac line. problem is they are kinda hard to open up and then get sealed back. believe me i was pissed i emailed bosch in germany and i asked how can u leave us hanging w/no part, klaus had no answer. hope that helps. and yes ive plugged the retard port but ur gonna want it for smog tests
