New Porsche owner introduction

Hello,
I've recently purchased a '86 911 Carrera Euro wide body conversion. I purchased it from a financial analyst that had the misfortune to realize that no one has any finances left to analyze at the moment so he is selling his toys. Apparently the car was shipped over from Japan. I found Asian coins under the seat and stickers on the windshield in Japanese which would lend credence this. Also the clutch and gas pedal had wooden blocks taped to them to shorten the distance to the pedals (I'm not kidding). The black interior is very clean and the seats have been changed to Recaro seats which are extremely light. I'm presently restoring the console and knee bars back to stock as the previous owner utilized his inalienable right to self-mutilate his own vehicle by installing some fiberglass abomination console contraption. The car has 128,000 kms and needs a few odds and ends but I'll pick away at it as money and time allows. Many years ago I owned a '80 911 Targa which was the Mother of all Money Pits and at that time I had a champagne appetite on a beer budget. This time around I'm a little more solvent and I've always wanted a wide body Porsche so I figured life is short, what the hell.

Hey Hey, Welcome, She's a Beauty, Black Beauty!

What size rims are those?

Do you have the Euro rear brake lenses too?

Nice! I hope you don't need to keep the "wooden blocks"! Enjoy that beauty, love to see it time to time coming back to it's former glory!

Draco-I measured the rims and they are 18 1/2 " across with 285 tires on the rear. As for the Euro brake lenses, I'm not sure.
Rebel- I don't know what the exhaust is but it is definitely aftermarket. The pipes measure 3" across. It sounds angry when it starts, as if you have woken up a very large cat and and it is pissed off.
Now I have to decide what to do with my '69 Firebird convertible. Big problems in my life, I know.

The Porsche world is not a lonely one.......

A super welcome to you!

The Euro lenses are not an issue as many of us adapted.

But!! keep an eye on those oil temps!!!!

If you have any issues, please check my posts on oil temps.

High oil temps are the biggest killer of Porsche motors.........

Good luck,

Gerry

Very nice! Have you attended to base-lining the important mechanicals?

86 911 Targa-thanks for the oil temps tip. I'll read your posts and get myself up to speed on this issue.
Por_sha911-I'm presently doing a little interior dash/console restoration while draining my beer resources and also awaiting a new clutch cable and return spring to install. I bought our host's 101 projects for a 911 and it will be my guide through the maintenance work. A driveway, a beer and a Porsche, what more could a guy want.

How about a full set of Snap-On metric tools? LOL

Welcome and good luck with your P-car! At least you won't have to worry about Ethanol gasoline being a problem...like I do. Ha

If you haven't got records, plan on a brake flush, new filters, trans fluid change, cap & rotor, plugs, etc. This way you have a good start to keep up with proper maintenance. Also look very carefully at brake lines and pads. Most people forget that stop is more important than go.
