I'm here with you, baking in the Austin heat wave. 2.7RS powered 914 almost back together. Should be done for some fall hill country cruising.

There are several around our parts. Shoot me a PM, so we can meet up when I get back in town next week.

No, I don't think there are any Pelicans living in Austin. You need to move toward the coast for that.

Sorry if this is a little off topic. But I was watching the news last night and saw dry lakes and dead corn throughout the state. Drought and temps in the 100s with no relief in sight.

Do you guys drive your air-cooled cars in that heat?

I think I'm the only one in Hell Paso. I've seen only one other early P-car around here, a white SC convertible. Maybe a dozen Boxsters. Everyone else has Fords, Chevys and those stupid Rice Tuners.

Oh yeah, those late 80's to early 90's American sedans with 22" rims that sit 3 feet off the ground seem to be the rage around here, too.

mca, my '88 is a daily driver...so the answer is YES, I do drive it in this heat. With the top down (Porsche air conditioning). Yesterday and today's high will be 104. My oil temp gauge has been steady at "9 'o clock".

Most of the Texas-specific posts are made over in the Tex-Mex Regional area on the main BBS topic list. Check there. Majority of posts are usually from the Houston area... but we all are interested to hear of things state-wide

If the 911 had AC I would probably drive it. Mostly the car is parked most of the summer. Or should I call it "swinter"? The winters are extremely mild here but the summer heat is starting to get to me...

Summer is usually when my car projects get done.

Only drive early in the mornings this time of year - to hot for the car and way to hot for me.

And yes, South Central TX is in a brutal drought and heat wave. Temps running 5-10 degrees above normal, heat index running 105-115 about every day and in our area we've had less than 3 inches of rain this year and there is none in sight. About the only thing that will really break this drought is a tropical storm and no one really wants that to happen!

Cotton that would normally be ready to strip in a couple of weeks was plowed under months ago. Maize and corn crops also failed and farmers/ranchers are selling off their cattle.

I do at least on the weekends, but I'm even driving it today. The A/C is the biggest issue and mine is upgraded so it is ok, but even an upgraded A/C has a hard time with the 100+ heat.

I've taken it to the track multiple times in June and watched the temp gauge pass the 240* mark (which isn't good I know).

I'm about to add a driver side oil cooler this weekend and hopefully that will help keep the temps in check.

Boy is that the truth. Here summers are like MN winters. You can not go outside, and the weather dictates what you do or I should say "don't do".

I didn't sign up for this.

Not so much now that I am older. Early AM for Cars & Coffee but home by noon or in the evening. No AC in mine, a friend drives his '71 as a daily driver. I drove my 356 as a daily driver during the summer of 1980 (record of 100+ days).

dailyATX82sc, I'm in the DFW area with some others.

Welcome to the board.

Anyone who THINKS they would like to live in Texas needs to come here for an extended stay during July/August before making the move. I've finally got my Porsche a/c system up to what I would consider "minimal" standards, but it stays garaged most of the summer season....no way I'm going for a long trip in the Porsche in Texas (even my Accord and Ranger struggle at times). A Porsche a/c system in the Texas summer would be the equivalent of a Bic lighter in a Minnesota winter. Lived here all my life (so far) and even after 60+ of these summers, you never are quite ready for another one.

I can't stand this weather....although now that I'm using an A4 as a daily driver it's become tolerable. I used my '87 cab and '88 coupe as a DD for years and I've gotten too old for that any more. BTW, cold from coming through in the next day or so...ONLY 98 tomorrow.

It about this time of year a good friend of mine who lives in Marin County calls with the weather report there...I usually just hang up. He used to live here and could not stand the summers.
