I think the crafty one is K&N. They chose a filter size (approx. 12" OD) that isn't commonly manufactured. I know, I looked, but that was a few years ago. Other than K&N's own paper filter, TruChoice (or is that the name of a supermarket?) makes a foam element that fits the K&N base plate.

Once upon a time, I modified some Amsoil foam filters (cut and paste) to fit my Filtron filter housings (same dimension as K&Ns).

Not sure about the service life of foam (ITG or equivalent). I imagine a few washings and they might begin to go away. It's only foam. I won't even hazard a guess as to the cost of an ITG replacement element x 2. Anyone know?

Anyone have clearance issues with the ITG filters? I am installing a set, and it appears that I will need to remove the AC condenser from the deck lid (AC doesn't work anyway).

Cost of more shallow ITGs (see below) versus removing a non-functioning A/C component/system? That would be no-brainer for me. If you plan to bring the A/C back to life in the near future, option A is .....an option.
