tape some thermocouples to all the spots that you "shot" with the IR "Gun"
measure them at different conditions & see how they correlate to the IR thermometer's readings. what you'd really like is to bore little holes in your pipes and epoxy some thermocouples in to catch the bulk temperature of the fluid. always good clean fun & sometimes worth a MS. |

Im planning on getting some IR shots this weekend. I intend to make sure the measured surfaces are quite clean (free from coats of "crap") and measure at a similar distance each time (point),..trusting only the specs of the instrument. Now, I'm told the specs are not spec, actually, to reflectivity issues. Will have to look into this for anticipated measuring "slop" with the IR? A thermocouple won't lie to you (that is, if it's working right...). Time to break out the thermo's on my bench Fluke meter and see what shakes (comparatively-speaking). Will report back. Best, Doyle

Dshepp,
Calibrate your thermocouple first in an icewater bath. Should read.......32 F.
