ID this 915 gearbox

hello

Could you help me to identify this gearbox ?

it is not a sportomatic. I don't know how many gears it contains

X Y 4 1062

It seems to be a 74' 915 and serial number n° 1062

X would be 7 for a 6 cylinders engine.

and Y maybe a 3 or 8 ?? It is not a sportomatic , so exclude numbers 4 and 6

what about number 5 ?

It's an early 915, looking at the throw out bearing guide tube it could be a late '73, a '74, possibly a '75. Where the "boss" on the bottom of the diff housing is ground down is where the 915 "type" number is stamped. To know for sure remove the diff side cover and count the teeth on the pinion head. 7 teeth = '73.5/74 (7:31 R&P), 8 teeth = '75 (8:31 R&P).
