the picture is a link to a large one. This is the way for the thread to be more readable.

Manu - the larger pic didn't help. I could only read a few of the numbers. If you can post the full number, you'd get more help. Or, you can check here:
901(just in case it's not a 915) http://www.roadglue.com/wiki/index.php?title=901_transmission 915 http://www.roadglue.com/wiki/index.php?title=915_transmission

thanks Josh
I can see _ _ 4 1062 X Y 4 1062 It seems to be a 74' 915 and serial number n° 1062 X would be 7 for a 6 cylinders engine. and Y maybe a 3 or 8 ?? It is not a sportomatic , so exclude numbers 4 and 6 what about number 5 ? |

It's an early 915, looking at the throw out bearing guide tube it could be a late '73, a '74, possibly a '75. Where the "boss" on the bottom of the diff housing is ground down is where the 915 "type" number is stamped. To know for sure remove the diff side cover and count the teeth on the pinion head. 7 teeth = '73.5/74 (7:31 R&P), 8 teeth = '75 (8:31 R&P).
