Porsche Crest Can 964 C4 calipers be balanced?!?

Call out to all the brake experts...

I have the chance to get some f&r 964 C4 calipers for free. I remember reading in a post somewhere that piston sizes are different on the 964 because of obvious weight distribution differences. Is this correct?

This is for my 74' track car, I'll be installing a tilton 3 pedal assembly and will have 2 m/c for the brakes. If there is a diff. in piston sizes will I be able to balance this with the m/c sizes??

964 calipers when used as a set are correctly biased for 911 or 964 use. A 964 has very similar weight distribution to a 911.

It's not necessary to use a twin m/c setup but yes you can do that too if you like.

The issue w/ using 964 brakes is that there are 2 basic ways to do it.

method one(Mickey Mouse), hog out the holes on the front set and use w/ 3.2 Carrera front rotors, then you need either 3.2 Carrera rear caliper and rotor or a 964 rear caliper on 3.2 rear rotors or 996/Boxster rear calipers on 3.2 Carrera rotors

Method 2(the correct way) machine off the front 964 axial mounts /convert the calipers to radial mount use on 930 rotors w/ flat hats in back 930 rotors used w/ modified 964 calipers. To modify 964 rears, plug the mounting holes w/ alumium stock redrill the mounts for correct fitment on the rotors(you will also need to clearance the throats a bit.

Or you can have VCI modify a set of 964 rotors and calipers for use on a 911.

Thanks for the info Bill! Was hoping you reply to this...

I have read many posts on brake upgrades and tought I remebered someone mentionning that C4 calipers had different piston sizes. There was my concern, is there a difference between C4 and C2 964s?

No, all 964 C2/4 calipers are the same except;turbo, RS, America Roadster.

I will go pick them up this weekend and will use "method#2" ...

Could I pick your brain a little more and ask what a good starting point for m/c sizes should be? Again I'm going with Tilton double cylinder setup with balance bar.

A single 23.8mm is a tad on the large side, for twins there are so many variables I hesitate to make a rec.

If you contact Tilton and provide them w/ all the info they can help.
