Caliper questions

Should brake calipers mount so bleeders are at highest point on caliper ? That should allow air to be bled easily .The fronts on my 73 ' came marked L/R but if mounted as marked they will have bleeders on the lower side of caliper.
I also need to know of a source for rebuilt front calipers at a reasonable price .

You are correct, the bleeder valve should be on the top side of the caliper. Any reputable Porsche repair shop can rebuild calipers as it is not that hard or time intesive to do. For that matter rebuilding calipers is a pretty straight forward DIY job. A PM will be sent to you for a source on rebuilt calipers.

The bleeder valve should be pointed up, top of the caliper.

Although the calipers will mount in a reversed position,
the lack of brake fluid in the caliper will not provide any petal pressure.

It always scares me when I hear somthing like this. I suspect that some shop out there that supposedly was a "Porsche expert" mounted them wrong and didn't know better. I can't for the life of me figure out how that installer bled the brakes.

I would recommend rebulding them yourself. I just finished rebuilding all 4 calipers on my 69 and it was pretty simple. The rebuild kit from Pelican was pretty cheap as well (Total cost under $80). If you do decide to do the rebuild make sure to get the brake lube and get 101 Projects for your 911. Wayne's article on break rebuilding is excellent. Thanks for your concern

The issue I have actually had was a supplier (Cardone )kept sending parts that had the bleeders reversed. The lefts were boxed as rights and visa-versa. I knew from basic physics that air bubbles wont sink to the bleeder so that is why I asked.
That is only one of the problems of building my first Porsche from a bunch of boxes.

My apologies. I thought the calipers were already mounted by a shop and were wrong. Thus my comments. Sounds like you're on top of it and asking the right questions. Good luck with the work.
