Question Loose Wiring Problem - Headlights

My "flash to pass" function on my headlights column stalk switch has ceased to fuction and when inspecting the switch/wiring, I noticed that there were a number of disconnected wires (refer photo below).

I've tried interpreting the wiring diagram in my Haines manual, but am completely 'blind' to the models notation. Can someone please assist me by advising where each wire should be connected? For example, it appears fairly certain that the two solid grey wires connect to each other as apart from their colour, one has a male connection and the other a female. As for which wire connects to which connector on the pull switch, well I'm pretty certain trial and error connection probably would not be a good idea!

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I just spoke to a mate here in Brisbane who also has a 911 to see what his wiring looked like.

Alas 25+ years of tinkering, alarms and stereos means that his wiring is just a screwed as mine. It did highlight however that it would appear that the two yellow wires should be connected (the longer one on mine is incorrectly connected to the light pull/push switchand, the other is loose ) in a loop as it is on his car. Our thinking that this may have been a point for conducting fault diagnosis(?).

Any thoughts?

Is that flash to pass element the only failure you are seeing with so many disconnected wires?

Yep, headlights were working fine except for the flash to pass.

Can any provide me with photos of the wiring looms from thier own car? I just need to know where the two main wires connect (i.e. Red and Grey with black stripe).

Wiring mess

Hello

I live in Brisbane (although my car is stored in Toowoomba) and my cars wiring has not been molested. If you want you can come and look at the wiring and work out what could be wrong.

Regards

SJM

Sheldon,

I'm amazed that with all of those disconnected wires,
you have not detected other anomolies.

If you do not have access to a Bentley manual, your
best bet is to run a "comparison" test with another
car as suggested by SJM.

Bring along a multimeter.

My Bentley is for the 3.2 and would most likely not apply to your situation.

When you perform the "comparison" test, try to
reconstruct that "spaghetti city".

Also, your problem may be in the stalk as these contacts
will, over time, corrode.

There are several excellent recent posts on this subject. (theiceman on Rennlist)

Do a search on "headlights" and, "turn signals" on this forum.

Good luck,

Crown Lager..........

sjmmam, thanks for the offer, that would be great. I'm heading up to Leyburn for the sprints this weekend, but maybe we could arrange something when I get back.

Maybe if you could photograph the wiring in your car and send it to me that would be the nbext best thing.

I will also have to look at getting a copy of the Bentley's manual asap.

Thanks everyone.
