Engine wants to die upon removal of oil filler cap?

My recently swapped 3.2 wants to stall upon removal of the oil cap. Old engine did not do this. Cause? Solution? Suggestions?

Additionally, the idle feels a little rougher than it should be. Set up with SW Chip, Cat bypass and stock muffler. Mechanic/friend put his hand at the muffler outlet and said that it has a little miss. All plugs are new and injectors were sent to Witchhunter.

Did you re-install the restrictor in the oil breather line?

I'm not 100% this would cause the other issues but it should stop the stalling when removing the oil cap. Huuuge vacuum leak.

What did you keep from the "old" motor? If not the ignition and intake, you could have all new issues to start with.

My car does the same thing.

Whenever I remove the oil cap to check the oil level it would begin to run a little rough but it would never stall. I'm running SSI's with a SW chip.

I did the engine swap about 3 years and it's always been like that. I'm guessing it's normal for these 3.2 motors to do this because it runs perfectly

Milt, my new engine was complete except motronic unit under seat. I did not remove the intake to replace the intake gaskets as all looked good and all barrel nuts were tight.

Everything went back together as it was. What/where is the restrictor you and Oh Haha are referring to?

Just to update this thread......problem diagnosed at Dealership as intake leak on cyl #2. Sure would have been easier to replace the gaskets while the engine was on the stand. So much for assuming they were OK.

Oh and if this was not enough, tech said that the valves could stand an adjustment as several are loose - so much for my first valve adjustment!

You probably still have the restrictor missing in the hose from the tank to the front of the curved hose going into the throttle body.
The gaskets on the heads will collapse allowing an air leak into the intake..been there done that.

Where is the restrictor? You got a pic or part #?

Man , that was a biotch to find but here it is:

part 10a in the diagram

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/PartsLookup/search.cgi?command=show_page&Catalog_Name=911_USA_78_83_KATALOG&Illustration=104-00&Line_Item=10

Suggest pulling the line off and see if it's in there before ordering a new one.

Thanks for the link.....I don't recall seeing that part in the line. Perhaps it is in the line on the engine I removed. I'll check.

Thanks guys. Just checked. No restrictor in new line. Old restrictor still in old line but is does not want to come out. Mangled it a little with needle nose pliers trying. Guess I just order a new one.

Will the performance of the engne be effected if the restrictor is not in place or just when you open the oil cap?

You would have, in a sense, a vacuum leak without the restrictor. It'll run but will run better with it.

I think that is normal. By opening the oil cap you just created a huge vacuum leak.
