What do you need to take off to get to this switch to be able to replace it, any tricks? I can barely see it, JL

OK, just repaired this.
It is hell of alot easier to have the engine out but here it goes: The switch is located right behind and below the AFM connected to a 1" diameter wiring harness. It literally sticks out with a green wire and a female stab that goes onto the switch. Check to insure the wire is still attached to the harness. Mine was severed and luckily just loose attached to the switch. Well again not so lucky. Wrench charged me my left kidney to fix it. All he did was splice it back together. Voila I have the IDIOT light again. The engine was out for tranny replacement.

Drive like you stole it!!

I'm not pirating your thread, but was wondering if you guys might have any ideas about my '84 Carrera's problem... Oil press light and both brake warning lights all come on at once - together! The oil press and oil level is good, temp is normal. The engine is running fine; I drove it home 15 miles on the fwy.
Could it be a sending unit or something grounding out? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

JL,
I went "back there" last month to replace a breather hose. Here is my post to another member. ![]() But first review this wiring diagram to possibly resolve your anomoly by trouble shooting a loose, or broken wire. ![]() My approach to your issue would be: 1. Remove the oil pressure gauge from the cluster. 2. Remove the Green/White wire from the gauge. 3. Place a ground on the gauge connector which normally holds the Green/White wire. With the ignition on your oil light should light up. If it does, there is an open circuit between the sending unit and the gauge, or the sender is defective. If it does not, check the bulb, and the 12V to the gauge. Next, with the Green/White wire still disconnected, make a continuity check from the Green/White wire to ground with the engine running. No continuity re-confirms an open wire or defective sender. pm me as required. Good luck, Gerry
