Crankcase breather not connected ?

I have a 75 911S, 2.7, with CIS

The PO has put the breather hanging down by the pass side shock.
Is there any good reason that it would not be connected to the oil tank ?
My CIS does not have the connector on the boot from intake to throttle butterfly.

All of the diagrams I find are of a newer schematic.

Thanks for input / info

none whatsoever unless you want to dump a lot of oil mist to the ground. The oil tank neck should have one line from the crankcase (breather) and another going to the air box.

I did some more checking tonight.
There again isn't another bung on my CIS boot other than one already connected to the oil tank neck.
I looked closely and have concluded that at some point when the engine was dropped the breather hose was not placed correctly.
So that is why I have a free bung on the oil tank and a hose jammed through the sheet metal tin gasket.
What a PITA..... to redirect the hose I think a partial engine drop may be needed.
Couldn't reach it from engine top and too jammed in to push up through to the top from below

I get a couple of drops every time I drive and stop.
more if I am "on it"

If you can just reach the vent hose I'd raise it to top of compartment, fasten it up there, and then extend an added hose down. That'll allow fumes to condense and flow back.

put a K&N breather on tank neck

then maybe forgetaboutit

good suggestion .
I am going to remove the CIS boot and see if I can reach it ... to pull it up.
If I still cant I may cut the hose right at the spot where it is wedged in, will then splice a hose all the way to the oil tank or do your K&N trick.

It just bothers me that this wasn't done right in the first place ..

Brian,

There have been several posts on this subject over the last few weeks.

If you are unable to correctly perform this task as per the previous posts, you may have to do at least a partial drop on your engine.

I did our '86 by removing only the air cleaner assy, fuel meter, and throttle assy.

However, due to engine clearance, your model year does not offer this option.

If you do have to go back there, other misc items should be reviewed.

Do better work than the "other" guy.

Good luck,

Gerry
