Help with the release mechanism for the targa top, ie. broken slot for the handle

Hey all,

I posted a topic about this a few weeks ago... to sum up, the left lock on my 81 targa is broken in that 1/2 of the circular lock/unlock mechanism has broken off and left me with a 1/2 circle instead of a full one with a groove cut out for the release handles.

Now, I was given an interesting solution involving some epoxy and a hose clamp, but the best suggestion was that this particular part for the lock is available in the aftermarket from a certain supplier that starts with an st pn: SIC-565-032-00, and would completely replace this broken piece.

I purchased one, and gave it to my mechanic in hopes that he'd be able to install it and get it going... Unfortunately, he's had some problems figuring out how to get it installed without potentially causing irreparable damage to the whole locking mechanism. Apparently it needs to be pried apart, and that would allow the removal of the release/lock "pin"...

Does anyone have experience with this part? Or any hints that i can give to my guy on how to get this part installed?

Thanks in advance, any and all help is going to be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Michael
