Hard to find someone to work on my '73 911...engine is strong. Need suspension, brake, electrical expertise at a reasonable price. Any suggestions fellow Hoosiers? Most don't like older 911's.

Bob Farmer at Farmer's Automotive. Farmers Automotive 800-213-6373. He knows more about air cooled 911's than anyone I've ever met.

Be careful, he'll have you talked into $10,000+ of upgrades before you know it.

There's also Euro Motorwerks on 96th and I-69. www.euromotorworks.com

There also Premier Motorcars on 96th and Michigan. http://www.indyspremier.com/ They say they work on air cooled, but I can't confirm that they really can. They always have lots of exotic cars in their garage when I go over there.

I'm in Bloomington and use a guy named Jim, his shop is All Road Motorsports. He works on my 72, he's great and reasonable.

My go-to-guy when I lived in Indy was Paul Ross of Ross Automotive. Tried Farmer and will never go back. Paul is an IndyCar mechanic as well and has amaizing skills. We completely rebuilt my '73T MFI/925. Really knows these cars and is reasonalbly priced. He is in Paragon now. E-mail me if you want his phone number.

Farmer is a bit of a "strong personality". If you can get by that he does great work. Having said that, I know quite a few people who cannot tolerate it so I'm not surprised by your response.

I've never met the guy but there was a Farmer's Automotive sticker inside my glove box when I bought my car in Indy and some of the shoddy work I've had to fix after wards makes me leery. I'm not saying he did it but I'm just sayin'

Contact Paul at: 765-537-2798, rossmotorsports93@sbcglobal.net .

So far I'm a lifelong hobbiest, but if I don't get back to work soon I'll be in the longhood only business.

I'm a Hoosier (Chesterfield, IN) also, with two 73.5 911Ts, one turboed. See: 73.5 911t cis turbo.

One of my best friends lives in Chesterfield. Next time I'm up that way I'll have to check out your cars.

Mike - I realize I should mention I've known both Paul and Bob for close to 30 years. I consider both my friends. I've bought parts from them and I've ask each for advice. Both were always willing to answer my questions.
Paul is easy going and very qualified. By the book on his repairs.
Bob likes to push the boundaries of air-cooled tech. I enjoy "debating" his ideas, others may not. Bob is also very qualified.

That is the best explanation of Bob I have ever heard. Some of the fastest and smoothest 911's I've ever seen came from Farmer. I had the chance to drive an 86 euro that he rebuilt, and it was astonishing. Although you have to subscribe to his "bible" 100%, otherwise he'll run you out of his shop. I will be sending my heads to him when I rebuild my engine in the near future. The rest of the work I'll be doing myself to save money.

I used Terry Heath at Euromotorworks when I lived in Fishers / Noblesville and can recommend him. Although they seem to work on newer cars, but I'm sure he can handle the early ones.

My problem with Farmer was his shoddy work done by a high school kid and his mouthy attitude in general. I had to fix the problems created by his shop. Who needs that?
