thanks for the help.
Well, something doesn't look right but I could be wrong. The 639 indicates it is a model year 1969 911 S but the 9095 indicates they made over 9000 engines with that series. My info shows engine range is 6390001 to 6392126.

Look beside the number and check for the engine type. Should be 901/07 or 901/13

Honestly it does not look correct you sure you copied the number correctly?
639001-6392126 are 69 s engines 2.0, your 6399xxx does not compute. They only built 2126 S (the last one I own)
Serial number breaks down as:
First digit 6= 6 cylinder
Second digit = engine type
1=t
2=e
3=s
3rd digit model year
9=69
0=70
1=71
Then the sequential number
Your number is to high 639 (9095)

like Tony said you need to look for the engine type. Should be 901/07 or 901/13.

Can you post a picture of the whole engine?

Don't knock the silicone, this is the way I got the engine. I decided to go another route.

I personally can't tell if it is a 2.7 or 3.0, but it is a CIS injected engine. Someone may have stamped in numbers from a factory replacement case, which does not come with a number. The red shroud and 639 appear to have been intentionally misleading.

YOU NEED TO IDENTIFY THE ENGINE TYPE BY THE NUMBER BEHIND THE SERIAL NUMBER.

What engine plans do you have for the car and why not use what you have?

Well, if you want to know what the other lump is and have the ability to bring it to a shop, go to Eksten's at 78 Bennington Ave. 585.621-8200. Larry is the owner.
(Bennington is off of SR18 behind Kodak....not far from Adrenalin ********)
