electric fan on condenser

I am thinking of installing an little 8"electric fan on my rear a/c condenser to get better AC cooling on my 1985 911.
1. Would this be advisable and should it be a pusher or puller?
2. Should I put a relay on it if I use the compressor lead wire as power?
Thanks

Brian,

If you add a rear condenser fan you should:

1. Use the spare fuse on the 3 fuse block in the engine compartment as a power source for the fan.

2. The added A/C relay coil only pulls about 150ma and should not overload the green clutch wire.

3. The fan should pull in cold air from the outside.

Have you looked into the Rennaire systems?

We have upgraded our '86 with a Pro Cooler and a Hi efficiency evaporator.

Great improvement. 45F air on a 95F day.

pm me as needed.

Good luck,

Gerry

I added a 9 inch pull fan over the rear condenser wired with this attached diagram using a $5.00 relay I bought at Autozone. The fan turns on when I switch on the A/C.

In addition I added 3 small 34 CFM fans on top of the front condenser then installed the factory fan.

I added a 90CFM fan blowing back to the smugglers box behind the passenger footboard, its a return air fan.

I found a 911 center vent on eBay for 10 bucks and made a short duct out of a swimming pool fitting that fits into the bow tie opening. It sits right on top of the center console and makes really good cold airflow.

The car has a new compressor and a full charge of R12.

Here in Arizona I can get 50-55 degree differential temps from the outside air temp. It works pretty good and I can use the car any day now even in 110 degree weather and we have lots of those throughout the summer.

My SC is my only car and I never stop tweaking things with the car, my live in girlfriend think I'm compulsive, YES I AM.

Lots of info on adding fans to rear condenser here: Very worthwhile mod.

Adding 3 fans to rear A/C condenser

The aftermarket fans are reversible by switching the wires, its very simple only 2 wires. You mount the fan under the condenser, switch the fan blade direction and the wire it so it sucks air into the engine compartment.

The drawing featured above is something that I doctored for a Pelican awhile back. Unfortunately, it created some problems when the fan rotation was reversed. I re-drew the circuit using the more conventional pin outs, 86 ground and 85 power to the solenoid. Pin 30 the fused power source and Pin 87 the switched power to the fan.
