Need help with ducktail ID

I removed this off my '74 and after reading through some of the posts it seems to be a factory ducktail.
It has a steel back and fiberglass top.
I do believe it's a '74 year only.
I'm thinking of selling it but don't want to advertise it as real if it isn't.
Thanks for your help!

Yes, your ducktail appears to be a factory made part. It could also be from '73, either from a later RS or a spare part purchased from a dealer.

Here are some photos of the frame from an AL ducktail. Does your frame have the additional, small square piece of sheet metal spot welded to the interior of the frame in back of the holes for the rubber tie downs? This is a good indication it is the real deal.

Hi Louie,

I have not examined a large # of these original parts but have own(ed) three different ones, one AL and the other 2 steel framed. They all have these metal reinforcements added.

Restore your Duck Tail

If you'd like that Duck Tail restored give me a call. I make the metal base glass top as you see in the pictures.

Not always the case. I have seen original '74 Carreras with their original ducktails that had the cut outs for lights. These holes were filled with a metal blockout plate in each hole, held in place by 2 screws for each plate.

This is consistent with Porsche's pattern of using up existing parts until producing a modified part, in this case a metal frame with no dugouts for lights.
