Sticky speedometer and broken odometer

My speedometer has been sticky for a while, staying at zero until I reach about 25 mph. Once at that speed it seems to work fine. Now, I just realized that my odometer has stopped altogether. It's not adding any miles (top or bottom). I called up No Ho Speedometer and they would be able to fix this for about $150. Has anyone attempted this fix themselves? Is it even possible to do with DIY knowledge and tools?

My car's an '85 Carrera.

Thanks all.

sounds like your sender could have quit. also, it could just be corroded wires on the back of the speedo or even a loose or bad ground.

in any event, i would see if you could borrow a speedometer from somebody, maybe a shop could hook a spare up for a small fee. This would at least let you know if the problem is with your speedometer before you send it out for repair.

I have the exact problem... Odo and Trip just stopped this week while driving. Speedo has been "sticky" for a few months... 85 Carrera

I have a speedo from a 77S but not sure if it is compatable to swap for a test.

Please let me know if you have luck in diagnosing this. Having a very busy month and it's not looking as if I will have time to pull mine out.

Thanks

Wow, this is interesting, tonight the odometer and trip-odometer stopped working. The speedo is fine (no sticking), but nothing else. I'll check the cables and grounds. I guess if all else fails, it goes out to North Hollywood.
