Polybronze A-arm while you're in there stuff
Hey all,
more questions prior to my big brake suspension upgrade project. I plan on installing cooling ducts onto my 87 carrera and upgrading my pads to pfc 97s as well as a few other tidbits. I figured if I was to have all that stuff off, I might as well replace my old squeeeeeky a arm bushings. I figure the elephant poly bronze ones are the way to go. The car has 150 thousand miles on it and I doubt much has been done to the suspension with the exception of new boge strut inserts. What else can I expect to replace? I am guessing all the rubber stuff needs to be replaced, but what are those other pieces. Thanks in advance

As long as you're in there.....
I assume you're replacing your front wheel bearings and seals. Might as well replace the ball joints unless you know they're recent. Do you have turbo tie rods? If not, now's a good time too Will you replace your upper strut bushings with the Elephant monoballs? How about your flexible brake lines? With the new brakes I assume you're installing braided lines? Hey, this is fun spending someone else's money!!

depends what you plan to do with the car. If you're removing the rubber for track use, then make sure you have the turbo tie rods, poly bronze a-arm bushings and monoball strut bearings and a strut brace. Once the front is done, you might think about the spring plate bushings as well before you do your alignment and corner balance (which you'll need to do after taking the front a arm's off). Make sure you get new wedge pins for the ball joint to strut attachment and have a good look st the ball joints. They should be able to have full range of movement with slight resistance and no roughness to the feel. The boot must also be completely undamaged or cracked to allow moisture into the ball joint.

no reason to repl. wheel bearings if they test out good
same with ball joints what you DO want to do is to carefully check for any rust in the welded 'triangle' undre the F attachment point of the torsion bars check under the pedal cluster too... check or repl. (alter) torsion bars repl. all other rubber in the suspension |
