Noise Reduction
Does anybody have any recommendations on how to reduce engine and road noise inside 911?

If you search this, you will find quite a few options. Some have used Dynamat or similar self adhesive products. Some have used rollon coatings. There is also the factory firewall pad for sale from our host. I've found even an additional floor mat or mat underpad makes a difference. And even the type of exhaust has a big bearing on noise. I also recently noticed that once I got my CIS engine tuned correctly (after having fixed the vacuum leak and WUR problem) the engine is a lot quiter.

Sound Deadening Materials for Noise Reduction from Second Skin
a layer of damplifier pro followed by a layer of luxury liner pro. use a layer of heat wave pro behind the rear seats and on the parcel shelf on top of that to help with heat. you may have to step down to the non-pro version of heatwave to get everything to fit under the carpet.

Recommendations also depend on your starting chassis - SWB, Long hood LWB, Mid-9, SC, Carrera, etc. Each has different levels of Factory stuff and respond differently to 'improvements'.
If I could have my original 2200# SWB or 'slightly' mod 1900# 914-6 as quiet an my 'heavy' SC sunroof coupe, I would. Mutually exclusive requirements. Keep in mind new 911s (even 997RS) can push 4000#. Best, Grady

I think what you don't need is less noise, but more! Get yourself some sort of aftermarket exhaust that's loud as hell so all you hear is your engine's siren song of amore!

The newer Porsches use something that looks like a closed cell memory type foam about 1/2 to 3/4" thick that form fits the chassis and works pretty well - much lighter than the old asphalt barrier and carpet pad type material used in the earlier cars. The stuff is white,, I'm not sure if it's a vinyl or urethane material. Check with the materials from Aircraft Spruce.
I think the only new 911s that push close to 4000# are the TTs with AWD, pushing 37-3800. However, no way though would a late RS or GT3 come in that high - wet with a half tank of gas normally comes in between 3180 to 3250, depending on options such as PCCB. |

Randy, that stuff is bonded/molded together to the back of the interior carpeting - I know what you're thinking. You're not going to be able to buy factory carpeting to install it into a early car, even the carpeting sections are form molded to the shape of the interior. If someone could manufacture the same thing for the early 911, I think it would work very well and not be heavy.
