It's what you do when you live somewhere with long, cold, dark winters I guess.

Worth way more than he will ever get for it - more love and time and effort went into this than any car built in a factory.

All that and he capped it off with brown?

Amazing... Don't blame him for building in the basement though, probably seemed like a lifetime project when you're getting started.

All I can say is WOW....

That guy had a dream and was prepared to do the work to see it come true.
Hats of to him I say... Thanks for posting.

I posted this pic for view...

I certainly don't want to take anything away from his achievement, but if he had just stashed away $5,000 a year in a savings account for 17 years he would have have $125k, enough to buy an authentic one. The one he built probably outperforms a real one though.

Incredible build! Way cooler result than throwing fiberglass Countach panels on an old Fiero..

Love the extraction pictures. Like unearthing King Tut's tomb!

Damn, and i thought my 914/6 project took a long time!

The best part was busting down a wall of his house with a backhoe to get it out of the basement... now THAT is hardcore.

I like the images of the backhoe, foundation resection and the car emerging within a cocoon – sorta like a 17-year locust.

I’m impressed. That was a 17-year labor of love. The result is valued far more than stashing some money in a CD. The satisfaction exceeds any money saving. A ‘tip of the hat’ to an automotive pioneer.

Best,
Grady

+1

As everyone knows here, the satisfaction that comes from enjoying something you built or fixed yourself can't be bought at any price.
