Handbrake problem..

My handbrake warning light comes on when i go full throttle in first gear....... no other gears and only full throttle.....anybody have any ideas what it could be? my handbrake is currently adjusted to where I have to pull up about 3/4ths of the way for it to engage if that helps anything....

how is your brake fluid level?

what happens if you go up a steep hill?

what happens if you hit a big bump - wires/connections rattling around in handbrake area could perhaps cause this - try rattling lever around & see what happens

and what year is your car?

It's a 86 targa.....lately if I go over a bump or something sometimes it will do it....and my fluid level is fine, I bled the brakes around 2 weeks ago......my pads are low, could that have anything to do with it? I'm putting new ones on today

I think there is a microswitch on the base that the handbrake lever pushes against when it is all the way down. Is it possible that strong acceleration lifts the handle just enough that the switch is released?

My car used to tell me by popping out the speedometer out of the dash... finally gave in and change the Gauge Seals.
