Ditto on the Tyvek suits. No dust and keeps the nasty isocyanates away from your skin. You CAN absorb those nasty VOCs, even through your clothes.
|
I have a disposable suite....and plan on wearing it.....feel free to pipe in. Involvement is welcomed. If I didn't want responses....I would not have started this post. The walls and floor will be watered down the day before paint is applied...as well as the day of painting...tack rags are ready....this whole post was intended to show what can be done on a very tight budget at home....If you only knew how tight and some of the hurdles that have been overcome....thanks again for all the kind words....I can't wait to see the end results.

Excellent work. I am especially interested because I have a Marine Blue 87 as well that needs a new paint job soon - hmmm...
Sorry a bit OT but does your M&K drone at all? Is it a 2in/2out or 1in/2out? |
No drone since I installed the baffles in the tips....there was a slight drone before but not annoying. Its a one in two out. I installed the baffles to lessen the chance of being noticed by local law enforecement.....it was uber loud to say the least before. Very few 87 Marine blue cars out there...That is one reason I didnt want to change the color.

Seriuously though, Buckterrier was spot on with his comments. |
Wow....what a day....I got off work at 9am....drove home, changed clothes and headed to my brother's house a few miles away...by 10:30 we started working on the car.....wax and grease remover, tack....SEALER....tack.....COLOR.....tack.....CLEA R....unmask....in just over 11 hours....
I had almost forgotten the color...still Marine blue....but there is more metalic and much finer mica than the original....It turned out better than I had hoped. Another HUGE thank you to my brother for his patience and skill with a paint gun. This was his first ever base/clear refinish. I think he did a great job A few days of dry time and then I will partially reassemble and start to color sand and polish. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270345410.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270345457.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270345488.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270345512.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270345540.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1270345600.jpg |
WOW Don, very nice. Great job.

Looking good. Get some rest as it will cure just as fast if you rest.
Will you make it to Cars and Coffee in it? I remember working on mine until 1 am (had to get up at 4) 3 nights the week before the first cars and coffee I got it to. Phillip |
Hopefully I will be able to make the one in May....unless I am out of town. Assembly will start next week.
|
Very cool Don, on the home stretch now. I will bring the champagne bottle to C&C so you can smash it on the hood to christen the maiden voyage:)

Well another update is in order I guess.....the color sanding is finished....as is the machine buffing. I still have a lot of work to do including hand glaze and final assembly.....but I thought I would put the wheels on it for the first time with the bumpers loosely mounted to get an idea of what it really looks like...I thought I would share the initial photos
