Thanks for the kind words, Jamie! It is always good to read about another successful CIS to EFI conversion.
There is a fairly large footprint of people running these CIS to EFI conversions, so those less mechanically inclined should be able to get help here in the Pelican forum or over at the bitzracing yahoo forum from good folks like Jamie. Cheers, Tony

I finally noticed this thread. It is my car and I am very pleased with the tbitz kit, how well it fit, the excellent instructions that came with the kit and most of all how the car performs now. I am very grateful for Jamies help with the install. It was 11 hours of intensive wrenching but we made it in one day.
Regarding how the car runs with the tbitz EFI; the major difference is the throttle response in the midrange, from 2000 to 4000 rpm. Before it had massive lag, and as a result I had never thought of the car as even half decent quick. Most probably the old CIS didn't work properly and it was running too lean. Now with the immediate response and close to correct fuelling it's like riding a wave of torque, and driveability is much improved. My ususal driving style is running on low rpm/high gear and this is where the difference is most noticeable. Another effect of the corrected fuelling is the car now runs quiter than before, with a slightly less tinny sound from the Dansk Sport muffler. On my way from Austin to Nashville after the install I got 23 mpg, which I am happy with. The car is now sitting at the shipping agency awaiting transport to Norway with ETA January, and I am looking forward to taking it on the road here where even the best roads are smaller and narrower than the smallest roads in the US. |

Jamie, just noticed this thread! Great work buddy! You are like the MS Santa Claus, helping Pelicans far and wide realize their EFI dreams. Any progress on the 914 acquisition? I keep forgetting to snap pix of the aluminum bracing on the P908. Gonna do it this weekend for ya.
Cheers.

Jamie,
After finding and responding to the Bill V. thread, I found your awesome EFI thread. Another example (and there are about a million in this forum) of how friendly and helpful the Porsche scene can be! Great story and videos! I need to figure out a way to get you back to Chapel Hill?!

Justin, Santa Clause?! I can barely grow a beard. I find the EFI tuning to be fun. That is the easy part compared to the install. Honestly, I would have been done in half the time if I could have completely pulled the CIS and eliminated 80% of it. Trond wanted a stock looking install so we made a few compromises.
The motor and tranny are mounted in the 914. In fact the car is back on 4 wheels temporarily. I am currently planning the cooling system. Once the fluids are set I will run the wiring and get it running. Of course, there are clutch, shifting and throttle connections to fab up. I am on the fence about cutting out the entire rear trunk area. It would be nice to do so for access and weight reduction. The downside is having to tube the rear of the car somewhat. Udo, All it takes is a job and would be back in NC in a heartbeat. I admit I miss the East Coast.
