SC Won't Start/Crank after Engine In?

Yesterday, a friend and I dropped the engine on my 911 SC and put it back in. I buttoned the whole thing up and she won't start. Won't even crank. Here's everything I did or checked, help me eliminate the obvious. This car ran last weekend, BTW. (It was running when I took it apart! )

- Battery 12.6V
- Engine turns by hand (ie. not hydrolocked)
- Starter wires (big one on the big post with the red wire to the Alt.)
- Big yellow one in the middle
- Yellow and blue to the bottom post (cleaned the terminals a little and couldn't see any markings)
- Transmission ground strap cleaned
- Red relay installed correctly
- Fuel pump runs
- Ground installed on runner #3
- Wiring hooked up in tunnel
- 2 big plugs multi-pin reconnected.

What am I missing? I don't want to start thinking ignition switch since it was running before. The only other thing I can think of is that something go damaged when I took off the CIS, but it should still crank, right?

Looks like you have the yellow blue cold start valve wire hook up to terminal 50. The ignition switch wire (your big yellow) goes to 50 (it juts out abit) (and has a big "50" next to it). Swap them.

There was no "50" but that was the issue. This must be an aftermarket piece since these connections are contrary other threads I have read.

looks like a Bosch to me. Some internet advice is worth what you pay for it.

Whenever I have some doubt about my starter, I simply pull it out and have it bench tested (mechanical and electrical). Once you have confirmed that the starter is GOOD, then your trouble shooting process will direct you to either electrical connection/s or battery. The battery could be tested separately. Minimize the variables and you'll find out the source of the problem.

To me it looks like one of those connectors is not connected. I was able to figure out which wires went where by trial and error two weeks ago when I put my engine back in. When the ignition was clicked over nothing would happen if the connectors were in the wrong order. Finally we got them correct and it was good to go. Since your car was running when you took the engine out I'd bet you have it wired up wrong.

For the archives: The photo above is showing the wires hooked up incorrectly.
I switched them per Paul's (psalt) advice and it started up. I was remiss in thanking Paul. Thanks.

It doesn't run, but I'm in another thread on that.

I had the same problem when I replaced my engine. When I hit the starter the fuel pump kicked in.
I reversed the yellow wires on the starter and that did the trick.
From what I remember the smaller gauge yellow wire went on the larger terminal on the starter.
