Although I doubt it's being considered, I was thinkin' how cool it would be to sort of tuck away a car like this - into a barn...and just let the dust settle and relax for a while.
...It has to be the right car for it and it is imo. ![]() |

"When I went over to the dealer and asked if they had forgotten to put oil back in after the oil change...the guilt was all over their face, but they would not admit it."
Very nice, but this shop is not a "dealer" with a bunch of minimum-wage mechs, it's an excellent independent Porsche shop with just three experienced techs, not counting the highly experienced owner, and they don't "forget to put the oil back." And if I were you, I'd buy a Mercedes.

Steve- lots of second guessing on this thread with little evidence. Let the original poster reply or bury it IMO.
Looks like a nice car- still has the 1972 only USA T yellow MFI shroud. This always makes me suspicious: suspicious in that it is a hugely great car that should garner more respect than it has....so far...

But no MFI in the photo.
Maybe he took the photos while the "tech" was fixing his car. Guess we'll never know now. My gut tells me he's gone for good.

i spoke with owner!! he has agree to let me watch rip down of motor today!! Steve seems to me a know it all!! people make mistakes and has no idea of this car situation!!! when i brought the car to this individual who was highly recommend i might say the first thing before i put one dime into it was to tell him is the motor fine!after 5 k when i'm about to pick up motor blows!!! it seems pretty funny how a car motor runs great for hours until it is removed then when put back in that suddenly without one noise as the tech said that it just stopped!! the reason i bought it to a real expert was for him to watch all pressure of the oil and temp!! i don't expect him to tell me know i wasn't watching the oil pressure exceptional just after ripping the entire motor and transmission out and replacing the rear seal of the engine!! i wouldn't leave the car running outside without supervision after that and I'm no pro!! lets see what we find !!! one thing about me is i don't tell lies and is an honest person!! it's gonna kill Steve if a mistake was made !! all i did was ask a question on this board and the nuts came out!! simple question is how do i know if a mistake was made not that there was one made!! you gotta know how to read Steve!!!!

If it's a 1973 1/2 it should have CIS. My 73.5 came with yellow shroud and CIS originaly. I was told by a friend at dealership the shroud color could vary as Porsche would sometimes use up the old stock before swithiching. The car definitely looks modified. 18k seems like a lot for this car.

It could be anything - can't wait to see . MY first car was an MGB it seized suddenly - working fine one day seized the next. My dad and I started to pull the motor and as we were separating it we heard a distinct click. We both looked at each other in wonder. we checkd the motor and just like that it wasn't siezed. diagnosis? The worn starter drive gear mismatched with the worn ring gear and jammed up the motor tighter than a frogs ass .

Sorry, I was just overreacting to the seeming hysteria of your initial posts and your apparent willingness to blame Tom for not putting in oil or something of the sort, when a 35-year-old car suddenly dies for no reason. Good luck on the teardown, though. If you'd like to take a break, come on over and I'll buy you lunch. Tom knows where to find me--just look for the yellow SC in the driveway...up on jackstands, as usual. But we can't do church. I'm an atheist.

I recently sold my 72 T with MFI. This looked to me to have the MFI filter housing on the console. Mine also had a yellow shroud. It has now relocated back in its homeland.
The 18K may be a little steep, but should draw some lookers.

That said, this forum has recently been plagued by jokers that show here on their 1st post and start yanking our chains. I think you a are a serious, honest guy with a legit problem. None of us were there and we call only assume and guess. Many here have given you their best guess. Don''t kill the messenger just because you don't like the message. Long story short, your guy is offering you a good deal on a rebuild. You'd be hard pressed to PROVE he did anything wrong. You'll have a very hard time getting $18K out of this thing with a blown engine.......Fix it and enjoy it. It will last another 30 years..........G'luck.

its beautifull car. fix the motor. sounds like you have a good deal for the rebuild. i liked the pics of the shop. looks big, very clean, other porsches in there, no fords or chevy's.
6k in it so far, 5K or so for rebuild, sell at $20k and make a quick and nice profit. you could get more but if money is tight, $20k would sell it quick.

Woke up this morning to find the OP bid adieu and deleted his posts. Glad to see he did acknowledge a tear down is being done and I hope he will report any and all findings for the benefit of all who use this forum.
