I'm going to be fitting a standard '83 3.0SC engine & gearbox into my '69 911T with SSIs and a two in one out s/s exhaust. The T currently runs a later 2.4T & Zeniths.
I'd much prefer the look of carbs - I'm not after max h.p. or great fuel economy. Given that I'm not made of money what would you suggest I need in the way of carbs? Thanks Martin |

Gearbox may have trouble fitting. Best to keep the original box and just swap the engine. Then sell the 915 and recoup some $$.

I have a 3.0 with Webers in my 1970 911E, and it looks and works great. PMO carbs would probably be the best choice, as they are new. I think PMOs cost less, too.
I'd also keep the old tranny. I don't know about fitment issues, but I like the idea of keeping the original, vintage shift pattern. Wiring is significantly different, and it took me a while to figure it out when I put the engine in. I think your wiring would be the same as mine. PM me if you need to know about wiring.

The wiring is quite a bit differnet between a 69 and a 70. A 69 is a PITA. But with carbs it iwll be much simpler.
Do a search for "zeniths". some body on here is selling venturies for a 3.0. They will work fine if you set them up properly.

I believe (no experience myself) that you have to pound some sheet metal to get a 915 to fit in place of the 901. Nothing as serious as replacing metal to get the G50 to fit in non-G50 cars. But, the metal around the nose cone will have to be persuaded to allow the 915 to fit with clearance.
Best regards,

Thanks euro911sc - I've fitted a 911/01 'box to a 1951 Bug so I do have a big hammer
![]() Thanks BK911 - Zeniths? Hummmm. I hadn't even thought of using them. Previously I've heard nothing but bad things about Zeniths. |

Check out a conversion I did about a year ago to a 3.0 to Zeniths changing the jets and ventures. Great carbs and now a great car! Only minor tuning issues (mostly ignition). Best thing is there dirt cheap to buy compared to Webers and PMO's.

Thanks James Brown I've had a look at your thread and it's helpful & informative to me.
Did you stick with the jetting as in your thread? Can anyone suggest & availability of vents & jetting for Weber 40IDS carbs? Last edited by MdR; 05-27-2010 at 03:57 AM.. |
