What CV boots should I buy for my 1987 G50
000-043-301-08-M60 is the part listed in the pelican Parts section.. I THINK. The description is a bit vague, and potentially misleading.
1987 3.2L With G50 transmission. which CV boots should I buy? Thanks, Richard |

You can use either 000-043-301-08-M60 or 000-043-301-08-M84.
The difference in price is like the difference between the Porsche oil filter vs. the Mahle oil filter. You are just paying more for the brand name but quality is the same.

Thanks Howard.
CV Boot Kit (boot, flange, grease, circlip, and clamps) (4 per car, sold per each), 911 (1985 w/915.73 Trans through 1989), 911 Turbo (1985-94) Here's what I found misleading in the description, "1985 w/915.73 Trans through 1989" can be read two ways: 1)Does this mean this part fits only 915.73 transmissions up through 1989? (I doubt that this is the correct interpetation, because Porsche switched to the G50 sometime. the description implies the switch was in 1986, though I thought it was 1987) Or 2)does this mean this part fits 1985 models ONLY if they have a 915.73 transmission, and also fits all 1986-1989 models (Which would have the G50 transmission) I suspect the correct interpretation in number 2 Richard |

Richard,
I replaced the four boots on my axles this summer,an 89 Coupe with the G50 transmission which should be the same as yours and i installed Pelican p/n 928-332-924-02 x four which cost $11.75 dollars each kit ! Do yourself a favor and order an extra clamp, one small and one large in case you f**k one up... I didn't pull one tight enough before i crimped it ... I'm looking at my bill of sale and that is the right application for an 87-89 Carrera with the G50 transmission ! Phil

I just looked at the Pelican parts catalog and the p/n 928-332-924-02 is no longer listed but when you enter it in the search function it refers you to use 000-043-301-08-M60...
How quickly they change vendors... i installed those in June ! Phil

I need to do this on my 87, any tips? my driver-side outer boot is torn. I would like to fix it without taking the whole axle out.

![]() ![]() Pics I got off another post, taking off the end cap you can get to the c-clip to remove the CV joint. The inner flange that the boot attachés to is the item I do not see in the parts catalog. I was planning on removing 6 bolts on gear box, lowering that end of axle, removing inner boot retaining clamps, tapping back flange after pulling boot down the shaft, tapping off end cap to get to c-clip, remove c-clip then tap off CV joint. Remove flange then inner boot, then remove the outer boot, pump in some grease in the outer CV, install new boot, put on new inner boot (with new flange if available) repack CV, place CV back on axle and c-clip tap on new end cap (that I do see in the parts catalog), reattach axle to gear box. Not sure if the flange the inner boot attachés to can be tapped off the CV with out damage, and I don't see that item on the parts page. The other thing is, if the CV indeed can be tapped off the axle or does it have to be pressed off with axle removed? Has this worked for anyone in the past?

I'm in the middle of my first engine drop in my 86 Euro Carrera with 915 trans and I noticed that my inner CV boot is torn on one side so I'm hoping people with any experience doing CV boot replacements chime in with some pointers as Bob mentioned above.

this might help some of you my car is 1980sc, so I don't know how similar the boots are.
lift the car up and lock the wheel to be able to undo the bolts. loosen the bolts on both, inner and outer joints, but do not let it drop down because it is heavy and it will hit you in the face, try and support it with a jack or something to hold it until you can pull it out. once out, you have to remove the circlip which is very strong and you will have to be patient with it. the CV joint can then be knocked out but be carefull not to damage it, I used a rag to protect the surface, and you have to turn the shaft as you hit the cv joint. it will come off and you have to be carefull to do this with clean hands, clean rags etc you don't want the dirt and sand getting into the cv joint. then you remove the boots, which most have the flanges attached on them (mine did). when installing, I first cleaned everything and then installed the boot, installed the cv joint, made sure it lined up properly, knocked it back into place all the way until it did not go any further, installed the circlip and packed everything with grease. I then used the jack to help with lifting the shaft (heavy) and installed it back. make sure when you remove the cv joint inspect the channels and tracks by pulling some of the balls out and making sure there is no grooves in the tracks. I started with a small crack in the cv booth and ended up replacing the whole lot, CV joints and boots. once its out you might as well check everything and not needing to do it all over again in a few months. another sign of worn out CV joints is if all joint balls fall out as you twist it. good luck everyone, it is a slow but not difficult job.

Here's a good thread on boot replacement.
Carrera CV Boot Replacement I need to do the same outboard boot replacement that you do! Please update your experiences, when you complete the job. Grant
