Battery maintainer question

I have a Porsche battery maintainer (photo below). I hooked it up to the battery terminals & plugged it into a wall socket. Should the light on the unit be on, or does it only come on when it determines the battery is low & it is actually charging? I don't see a light & I am afraid it might not be working properly (which would explain the dead battery I had last spring!).

No experience with that charger but it's likely that the light should be on. Fuse blown in cigarette plug (it want to see a load before charging) or it's broken? Test for voltage out on the cigarette plug and check the fuse inside.

Sorry. Didn't read the entire post. I guess you're not using the cigarette plug.

Don't know about your unit, but on mine, a Battery Tender, the red light comes on as soon as you plug it into an electric socket. It stays red if the battery voltage is below 80 percent of fully charged. It changes to a blinking green when the battery reaches 80 percent, then goes to solid green when the battery is fully charged. There is never a time when there is no light (other than if the unit is unplugged from the electric socket).

If, by chance, you are using it by plugging it into the cigarette lighter socket, check to see if the light comes on when you insert the ignition key into the ignition and turn it to the first position.

I have the same unit and the light only comes on when the battery is being charged. Once it's charged, the light goes out.

Leave your headlights ON for about an hour, then check the status of the charger LED.

The cig. lighter circuit could be inop when the ignition is OFF.

The cigarette lighter circuit is "dead" with the ignition off, which is why I have attached the battery maintainer directly to the battery.

Confirmed PAG left this circuit the same at least until '88.
