Chain Ramp DIY???

Does anyone have a good DIY for replacing the timing chain ramps? I have searched the forums with no luck. The outboard ramps are easy, its the 4 inboard that might pose a challenge (I still can't see how there are 4 in there)...I discovered loose pieces while I was doing my chain tensioner upgrade, luckily the pieces tucked themselves away behind the right side tensioner (the engine ran fine up until I took it apart to perform the work). The engine has not been removed....yet? Thanks in advance for your input.

I recently replaced all 6 while my engine was out....my advice on removal. find something that will grab each ramp. I use one of the push button long stem fingered grabbers and clamp it to the ramp. then remove the bolts and pull out.
be advised, as you back the bolts out, the one that locks in place (all 4 inward) has a tendency to break the locking holder off. I actually had one break and fall into my sump. It is plastic, but I do hope it comes out with the next oil change
When putting each ramp back in, they sort of snap into place as the bolts go back, the outward bolts the ramp floats on...the inward bolt actually holds/snaps. Look at it closely while you have it out it will make sense to you what I am trying to say. This snap action does not happen easily either, as the ramps wants to just push backward as you install the bolt. I found that if you grease the end of the bolt lightly it helps go into the ramps easier. you will either need to hold your finger on the back side of the ramp while putting the bolt in, or use a wedge of sorts on the back side. Either way their is not much room on the back side. I also, when finished used a mirror to insure that the bolt actually made it all the way through and did lock in place on the ramp. You don't want to have the ramps in there unlocked. I know this might sound confusing, but it will all make sense as your doing it....good luck

Mike's got you covered. I am obsessive and add a little 574 to the crush washers...I hate weepy chain ramp bolts.

Also, if you're a first timer, take extra care in inspecting your work. Critical:
-Is the brown ramp in the right spot?
-Is the 'long' end of each ramp pointed toward the nearest sprocket, be it intermediate shaft (inner 4 ramps) or cam (outer 2 ramps)?
-Are the ramps in-plane with the ramps? The inner 4 especially like to misalign.

Thanks for the quick replies...one question: is it necessary to tie down the chains to prevent them from skipping like you would to replace the tensioners? I don't see how it would be an issue but thought i should ask just to be on the safe side. Thanks.

Glad to have helped, the inboard ramps are a pain to get on, probably a lot easier with the engine out.
