You'll find that the majority of 911-owners use Dino oil, NOT synthetic because experience has shown that air-cooled engines leak more with synthetic.

I like Diesel oil because it has additives for pressure and heat.
15W40 for cooler climates is just right, IMHO.
Dino oil is a lot cheaper than Synthetic and can be changed more often.
Why would you be using 20W50 in below Zero weather? It's almost a crime and your engine doesn't like it plus it adds to more time to come up to operating temperature. Start, wait a minute, then drive keeping it around 3k with careful shifting until the temp needle moves.
Driving in the snow? Hmm.......Why?
The heat exchangers, flapper boxes, muffler...........the whole rear end will acummulate all that sand and gravel mixed with salt.
And the worst is to park in a heated garage to really let the salt go to work.
First chance you get when it is warmer go under there and use a pressure wash to clean it all out. (On a cold engine, of course)

Get yourself a cheap beater like an old Volvo 240 and store the 911 in the Winter with a full tank and extra pressure in the tires.

BTW: The AAV can not be cleaned or serviced. The AAR and WUR can be cleaned IF THEY ACT UP. If it works, don't fix it, as the saying goes.
The WUR and AAR get 12V only with engine running (Or with jumpering the fuel pump) The electrical plugs have a small wire clip, tricky to remove with a very small screwdriver. If the CIS works, leave it alone but learn more about it through reading.

Servus.
Gunter, I know I'm wrong about using 20w50 in cold weather. I have now 74900 miles so I will let it reach 75000 to change oil and filter. I also know I was wrong to drive it in snow and salt. Today I took it to a gas station nearby that has one of these pressure heated water machines. I washed the chassis and engine and took it back to the garage. I learned a lot from my experience last weekend when I took it to the mountain. Never again. And I also leraned a lot from reading these posts. You know, my wife said the same as you about buying an older car and spare the 911. I don't know. Vienna is not made for cars. I think I'll just use public transportation and wait for spring. Take care.

It is almost certain that the AAV isn't closing quickly enough. Try removing it, blowing it out and lubing with WD40. Apply 12V and it should close in about 7 minutes.
And go to a quality winter weight oil. Maybe you've just made her angry!

get that thick oil out now...you are just going to be frustrated for another 100miles...
no point on doing changes at exact incraments. write down your millage when you change so you know when the next one is due.

let the car idol for a minute max...get out there and drive up to 4k rpm till operation temps are reached....then WEEEEEEE.

Huh?............Wrong advise and 2 months late.

AAV has no 12V connection.

This happens too often and just confuses people that need advise.

Please, learn about the components involved during cold-start.

Like: ASC, WUR, AAR, AAV, TTS, CSV. Lots of info available with a search here.
