2.2S teardown
I have been slowly tearing down a 2.2S engine. I was told this engine was sitting under a tarp since 1972 and had only one year of year since new. Here are some pictures. Please tell me if you think the engine could have been as described.
I am not sure what I am doing with it yet. It may end up in my 73.5T as a high compression 2.4S, sorta a 2.4S+. The throttle shafts are just TIGHT. I need to take them apart to lube them up. NO slop at all. ![]() Check out the gear on the pump. I dont see any wear. Cam gear looks the same. ![]() Cam lobes look perfect. I didnt even wipe them down. ![]() Rocker arms look as nice ![]() Cylinder looks pretty good. very little wear. I will mic it of course, but looks good so far. ![]() Heads were only wiped down with a rag. I will dis-assemble but look good so far. ![]() I haven't split the case yet, but I like what i see so far. To my untrained eye the engine looks as advertised so far. I would appreciate the feedback from those that know more. Whadda you think? Thanks!

The rocker shafts have rsr seals in them, not something you would see in a factory engine. Also the rockers arms seem refinished, normally they have a fairly sharp edge, which in this case seems broken. In any case an interesting find

When did Porsche stop using forged rockers in their "S" motors?
