Wow, what a fantastic job - well done.

Just one question - are you able to get enough air to the front radiators in track conditions?

Nice, that's pretty much what I was going for As for R-Gruppe style I'm not sure, actually. I love the R-Gruppe cars, but they generally prefer period correct mods. While I wanted to keep the look and feel of an early car, I also wanted to reflect what could be built with access to a modern parts bin and technology. But there are plenty of R-Gruppe guys that hang out here- maybe they'll chime in with an opinion or two

I believe that the oil cooler is behind the front bumper. He has holes cut out of the bumper and the oil lines in the passenger footwell.
Actually Britain, the oil cooler is a water to oil unit on the motor itself, seen here as that brick at the back, normally hiding under the manifold:

So the lines run forward are for the tank only, and the holes in the bumper feed extra air to the radiators.

So far it's held up very well to long periods of very low speed, high load running in testing, which is tough on the cooling system due to the low airflow. We'll need to wait and see if it also keeps up with hot days at the track in this configuration. If not we've got it set up so we can pull out lights to allow for more airflow if needed, and have a few other tricks if required.

What does it weigh?
Ah yes... It will be right around 2180 with fuel when the rest of the interior is in. It's more like 2150 at the moment.

Haven't been to the dyno yet, but...

My god...we are not worthy! This has to set the bar higher than I've ever seen it. Great blend of engineering and art.

Pure Artwork. Is the grey a specific colour or something you had made up?

If I ever win the lotto, Wevo will be my first investment appointment

I'm impressed with your effort in blending old and new technologies. They fit each other well.

Quick question, why didn't you add reinforcements to the rear shock towers? Is this where the roll bars tie onto therefore not requiring extra reinforcements?

It's actually one of four colors available on the '08 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. I really like the way it changes color in the light, but I was a bit nervous using it- I think many modern colors don't look quite right on older 911s. So far I'm liking it, though...

Actually if you look closely you can see some of the extra reinforcement. Each tower has three bars from the cage that meet it, and then a square cross-section bar goes across the rear to tie the towers together and stiffen that area, it just blends in pretty well when painted. Highlighted in red below, and there is more that's hiding:

Thanks again guys. Wevo's really responsible for all the art and most of the engineering. I supplied the concept, some crazy ideas and a little bit of help, but they are the ones that both pulled it together and pulled it off.

amazing & inspirational!

are there other pics of the "structural reinforcement members [that] run inside the factory panels"??

also, did you expand width/size of the center tunnel? P AG did that to stiffen the 964 & IIRC, the Singer car did that as well.

Pete,
I find myself poring over the pictures. Truly awesome.

1. Do you have pictures of the current gauge setup? Looked interesting, but didn't see a close up.
2. is the forward trunk tank for oil or water? I thought the GT3 engines had the oil tank mounted to the engine? But, there was a picture citing oil lines to the front trunk.
3. which transmission is it? From a GT3 or ?
4. in the video, were you in first gear or second? No kidding that thing revs quickly.
5. Unrelated, but.....is Tyson still at WEVO? I think I noticed in one of his posts he's in the PNW?
6. Which shifter is it? Custom or one of the WEVO units adapted?
7. is there a transmission cooler?

Still stunned - way to go!

Doug

Thanks Randy.

I don't have good pics of the internal reinforcements- wevo does. Rectangular section tubing was used up front to tie the cage anchor points together near the forward A arm pickups, running sandwiched inside the stock forward panels. More structure was added in a few other places as well.

We didn't expand the center tunnel, though I agree that in a street car the tunnel is likely the right place to add stiffness. If you're willing to accept more structure and smaller door openings, however, I believe a well designed roll cage offers better stiffness to weight (at the expense of space).
Our best estimate is a north of a 993 but south of a cup car in terms of stiffness, though we didn't twist it. Of course it's light, so it can get away with less stiffness in proportion.

Doug,

1. No pics of the gauge set yet- just getting finished up now. We shook it down with temporary gauges.
2. The GT3 does have the oil tank on the motor- yea can see it in the first pic of the motor outside the car. We relocated it forward (as on the daytona prototype cars) for better weight distribution. The expansion tank/ air spring for the cooling system is the aluminum tank on the driver's side above the motor.
3. It's a modified 993 based transmission.
4. I think the video was showing first at that point (ends at 57 mph). It was usually spinning up second (ends at 79) in those conditions as well.
5. Tyson has moved on from wevo- as you say he moved to the rainy northwest.
6. It's a wevo G50 shifter with a custom arm.
7. No trans cooler atm- we suspect we won't need one for this application, but it will depend on session length and how much power we can actually deploy at the track.

Thanks all. I guess everyone who thinks water is heresy is holding their tongue

Pete,

car look fantastic! Hope I get to see it in person this year perhaps! Very nice combo of new and old to make a really cool hotrod.

I have known of this build for a long time as we did the wheels for it, been waiting and waiting to see the final product out in the open. Car of the year on the forum for sure!!!

Cheers

thx, Pete - water is not heresy -- it is a great way to get a central spark plug & 4 valves -- maybe the only way

you can either route oil up front to a cooler or route water up front to a cooler..

I can't speak for others, but in MY opinion, water isn't heresy at all, if used properly. GT3 RS? Water cooled. Wouldn't kick one out of the grage for spilling ANY amout of water OR oil, .

In this case, you've avoided what to me are the issues with many of the water cooled cars (weight, dulled responses, lack of immediacy, etc), and have combined the best of both worlds: longhood goodness (lightness, immediacy, character) and modern technology (power output, lack of finicky-ness, yet quick revving and responsive, as well as environmental friendliness) in a package that pays homage to the breed.

I think this thread will take off once the holidays pass and guys are back at work (and online. )

Absolutely stunning!

You mentioned 2150lbs. What's the power to weight ratio?
