Engine grille painting ?

Hello. I am in the process of pulling off my engine lid grille so I can repaint it. My question is should I prime it? I'm going to use Rustoleum satin black for the respray.

Thanks,

Chris

it's plastic so no need to prime, just make sure it's clean. There is a plastic paint that I have used for lawn furnature. it holds up well and really sticks to plastic.

What James said. Also Krylon makes a plastic specific paint. I'd go with one of those.

I use rustoleum semi gloss black on mine....I wanted a little more sheen than factory satin finish...holds up just fine. Mine has been done 3 years...still looks as good as the day I did it.

I have painted a couple grills. I have had the best luck using Bulldog Adhesion Promoter then top coated with a SEM product that is made for use on exterior plastics. Comes in semi, flat and gloss.
Both products are available in clicker can. Most auto paint shops will stock both products.

I have never used SEM adhesion promoter. I am not even sure they have such a product. I have used the Bulldog promoter for years with very good success.
I have used SEM's paints on plastics, vinyl, leather and carpet and I am always amazed how well their products work.
The Bulldog promoter before SEM's paint has always worked well for me.
As far as the Bulldog before any other paint or coating I would definitely do a test panel. If the products are not compatible you will know in about five minutes.

SEM does have an adhesion promoter. I agree with the comment on SEM's products working well. I have never had a problem. Like any painting, prep is key. Do a light scuff with a Scotch pad blow or wipe off any dust and other loose crud, spray the adhesion promoter and let flash and spray the colour.
