Ky Smog and the '78 SC
I'd like to get some input from anyone living in Kentucky. There are several career opportunities for me in the Louisville area and I'd like to know what problems I might have from the smog police.
My car has no smog equipment and never will (as long as I own it). Thanks

Emmisions, HA!!!!
Well, I live in Louisville, and my 72 911 was registered as an anitque vehicle, so I never have to go thru the VET (Vehicle Emissions Testing).
I also drive a highly modified VW VR6 Turbo, and never have a problem passing. Couple of things to look at here: 1) Was you car built with smog equipement? If no, then you are not required to install it. 2) Contact me offline, and I will share some other stuff with you; completely legal of course ![]() 3) What county are you thinking of also; different counties have different rules; Jefferson is where the most of Louisville is located; but less than 20 miles away and you are in exempt counties. I also want to extend a helping hand for any/all information that you might need (unbiased of course)regarding my hometown, and hopefully your new stomping grounds. chris chris

Collier is correct, I also live in Louisville, which is Jefferson county and I have my 84 911 (cat. free) registered in Anderson county to avoid the stink test. To the best of my knowledge, if you keep a P.O. box in a near by county, you can register your P-car there and avoid the VET. Louisville is a great town, if you come this way I think you will enjoy it. Greg
ps. you will love the country roads through the hills of Kentucky!

Blasting thru the Horse Farms up in Lexington is soooo much fun!!!!! 65 miles away, and what beautiful rolling Bluegrass Hills.
Make for some nice long, country drives. Come on down to Ky..... chris

I live in Lexington. I don't think there are any emissions here heh. I know there isn't any type of inspection. I ran a 91 Mustang GT with no cats around for years as well as a 1993 F150 and also I drive my 912 around the entire city with it's straight exhaust (pretty loud) and no one seems to care.
Louisville is a great place to find a career. When my MCSE is complete I guess I will have to move there because Lexington has very little to offer

No useful information on the smog test but I was raised in Louisville & Lexington as well and would agree with those still there, it's a great place.
Looking forward to visiting there in two weeks as most of the family is still there as well. Doesn't have the big city feel, but there are alot of things to do all the time. Good Luck on the opportunity.

Thanks guys!
I don't know what county I might live in if I move down. Obviously it won't be in Louisville propper! I've got an uncle who I visit on occasion, he lives in a place called PeeWee Valey (?). I LOVE those roads!!!!! He's got a 993 cab that I get to thrash whenever I visit. Cool car. Unfortunately he is the "drive what they make" kind of guy and has no idea of smog issues for modified cars. Right now my SC has the SSI 3.0L in place, but by spring I hope to have the 3.3 turbo installed. It also has been "massaged" a bit with no smog equipment left on. At this point in time I am getting started in the job hunt and don't want to go to any cities that are unfriendly to auto enthusiasts.
