What is "Option group E12" on 1984 window sticker?
I now have a title, books, records, and even keys to the '84 Targa I bought sight-unseen (less photos).
The window sticker lists "Option Group E12" (cost $1340). Any idea what this is? The car also has: All leather interior $1000 Grand Prix white wheel centers $205 16 inch wheels $1580 Sports seats $250 Automatic heating control $485 Spoilers front and rear $1325 "Heatable" windshield $280 Total cost in 1984 was $40,265! |

E12 is the code for the center console and "coin tray" under the hand brake lever to be covered in carbon fiber. I always thought the carbon fiber options were only available on 964 and later cars. So, if that is in fact what your car is equipped with, it sounds like a pretty rare find.

I'm thinking that it's something else. Since it is an option "group" I suspect that it covers several different options. Was there a sport suspension package?
I can't believe that no one has come up with a definitive answer on this one. If I'm lucky the option sticker will still be under the hood and I can enter the individual options on one of the decoders available on the web. Cruise control is an option that the car has, but is not listed individually on the sticker. It must be part of the the package, but I can't begin to figure out what else could be included. The ID label in the warranty book actually lists the option codes for the car. Using the decoder they all correspond with the window sticker except the illusive E12. It gets no response from the decoder.
However, after going through the owner's manual I think it's going to be a package that includes cruise control, alarm, and wheel locks (for $1340???). This car has all those things, they are listed as optional in the manual, and they don't appear individually on the sticker or optional equipment code list. I've e-mailed a few experts... maybe I'll find out eventually. |

I don't know what E12 is but I have been trying to figure what E10 is from the sticker on my front hood. Kindel doesn't know, but I do have a full leather interior which my other codes don't specify : C02 220 395 and 409. Does anyone know what E10 is??

Steve,
Just curious, but does your car have cruise, alarm, and locking lugs? |

Here is a site for a partial option decoder although it doesn't say what E10 or E12 is. http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp

LeeH,
My car does come with cruise control, factory alarm, and lugnut locks, but I figured that all U.S. cars came with them, and its wasn't really an option. But you have a point, being that CO2 is a cat and 395 is the light alloy wheels (Fuchs) on my car and it is listed as some of the options on my hood sticker. I also have code 409: Sport seats left and right leather. Now, do the sport seats mean the sport seats I have seen that have the oversized seat bolsters, or does this option just stand for the regular seats, but covered in leather? I have just the regular leather covered seats and am curious if they were switched. |

Steve,
I'm thinking that you're missing a set of sport seats! Yep, sport seats means the extra large side bolsters and butt huggers (to quote my wife). Do you have your original window sticker or a certificate of authenticity from Porsche? As to whether or not all US destined cars had cruise/alarm/lugs I still can't say for sure. I've asked several people hoping somebody will know, but I'm away from home right now and don't have a web based e-mail. I may post that question seperately since this thread has had somewhat limited viewing. Lee |

Lee,
Sport seats mean the large bolstered ones - you're sure of that?? If that's the case, I feel ripped. Unfortunately I don't have the original window sticker or a cert from Porsche. |

Yep, I think your seats have been swapped.
The '84s still used the old style (non power) sport seats. Go to this link and scroll down to Group 8. Look at the diagram labeled "front seat complete" and the one labeled "sport seat completes." The standard seat is more rounded with a large, flat bottom. The sport seats base is different (more thight support) and the side bolsters are larger and have a sharper, almost squared off appearance. http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/911_1974-75_parts.htm |

Lee,
I just found a more complete options list. This one may be significantly more thorough than Kindel's. It an adobe PDF file and option E12 is listed as a carbon fibre console. I was not aware that carbon fibre was an option back in '84, but then again, maybe E12 is something else. Here is the whole Porsche Option PDF file: www.hartech.u-net.com/Docs/options.pdf |

Steve,
I've seen E12 listed as a carbon fiber console coin tray cover or something like that on several different lists. Keep in mind that that is a specific option. The E12 listed on my car's window sticker says "Options group E12," which to me, suggests that it is made up of more than one individual option. If and when (note skeptisism) my car ever arrives from Chicago, the first thing I'll look at is the console. However, I fully expect that it's the standard type. I sent e-mail to three different people who were involved with Porsche option decoder lists or web sites. All three responded that they have never heard of this! I finally sent e-mail to Bruce Anderson. Maybe it will show up in excellence in a couple of months! Lee |
