better valve adjust tool
i've been using this tool for years. cornwell tools sells them, mac and snapon may have them too. they are vastly easier to use and hold than the smaller tool. you can hold it just like a pencil, and roll it around in your fingers for positioning without dropping it. the new tool comes with a rounded tip, which needs to be squared off, so the gauge can be bent properly. it uses the long gauges the tool trucks sell, the excess of which rolls up in the handle. so if you chew up the gauge, just pull it farther out, snip it with scissors. dress the cut with a file, bend it, and you're in business. once you've tried one, you'll never go back. unfortunately, you still need that smaller one for the left lower rockers under the cat, if you have one, and #6 on C2/C4s.

Thanks JW, I'm almost due for a valve adjustment. So I'm going to try and source one.

Looks like I ought to be able to make one of those out of 0.040" Titanium sheet. How much does one of those rolls of 0.004" gauge run, John?

i don't know the part #, but you can print the pic and show it around to the tool truck guys. the long gauges run a couple bucks each, tool trucks are the best source. i'd buy 10 at a time and turn my friends on to them.

Anything with John Walker's Workshop attached to it is required reading. Its much like BTDT. Smokey Yunick would be proud.
In case you are not close to a tool truck, ie, MAC, Snap-on, Cornwell, etc. These feeler guage strips are available from your automotive machine shops and better auto supply stores that stock automotive machine shop supplies. JohnWalker/Obi Wan, I have tried via the SnapOn and Mac tools guy here in the Norfolk area with no luck (don't think we have a Cornwell Tool rep) in trying to locate your better valve tool. Any chance you can put me in touch with someone who would know the tool number?

I have been searching for that tool since it was first posted. Snap-On man who gets other brands is still searching for it. I e-mailed Cromwell 2 days ago from their site to show a pic of their valve adjusting tool and they have not replied yet. I want that tool.

I think it's Cornwell, not Cromwell as Ron posted.
The Cornwell site shows nothing, has no online catalog. I'd like one of these tools too. JW teased us with a picture, but the Snap-On and Mac guys in my area have never seen anything like it.

It's crazy that we can't locate that tool any where. May be I need a "genie in a bottle" for finishing this thread. Where can I find her?? My Snap-On man, among many others, never saw it either, nobody, nobody, nobody. I'm planning a cross country ride in May and I'll go any where to get that tool.

Youa re right about the company name, typo on my part, first one who finds it gets a cold beer and some time in an FA-18 tactics simulator, as long as they order me one as well...I too tried the web site and found nothing. I am not giving up yet...
