The owner of Fabcar built an unbelievable 993 powered early bus for his wife, including suspension and brakes. I know somewhere there is a great article on it, as well you to look no father than www.racetaxi.com for the baddest early bus on the planet, if you can call it a bus.

Who has photos or info on the Jerry Seinfeld Porsche powered 65 Splitty? or was it just all talk?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1263103933.jpg "Comedian JERRY SEINFELD has picked an unusual way to mark his 50th birthday - he's driving across America in an old van with his childhood pals to eat at their favourite New York diner. The former SEINFELD star, who celebrated his big day on 29 April (04), will hit the road with CHRIS MISIANO - who serves as one of the directors on THE WEST WING - and Oregon doctor CLIFF SINGER, both pals from his native New York. He says, "We are going to get in a '65 VW bus in Santa Monica, California, and we're going to drive it to the MASSAPEQUA DINER in Long Island. "There's only one change I did make to (the van). It's all original except I put a PORSCHE engine in it. So if you see a bus like this going a lot faster than it seems like it should be able to go, that will be us!" Seinfeld and his pals plan to set off on their journey on Monday (17MAY04)." 14/05/2004 02:30 |

The sister thread to this topic can be found at TheSamba forums at the link below geared toward fast early Buses that are for the most part VW powered.

I can't believe the way that bus chased down a Super 7 in the corners!
I would love to have a Porsche powered VW bus, but I want mine to be a pop-top with all of the amenities (fridge, sink, working heat and AC) It would be the ultimate camping road trip van! We had two 70s VW bus' when I was growing up and I have fond memories. |

Glad to see this thread! I'm a lurker, lured on by this kind invitation. SmileWavy
I recently bought an '81 VW Westfalia camper van that has a '77 911S 2.7L engine. The Mod was done in 1994 by a brilliant German gent named Brandt from the SF area. He passed away a couple years back, and his sons put the rig on the market. It's still running strong, just in need of some TLC. All else is stock VW. I call it my Flying Brick. As time goes on, I'll be cleaning up, adding to and tweaking her. I'm strongly leaning toward making her look like a Porsche B32. In fact, I'm heading to Stuttgart this spring for a bit, and intend to swing by the factory to see what I can glean on this rare van. Also planning on hitting the Claer workshop, where they do some simply amazing mods to Vanagons- adding not only Porsche engines, also Tiptronic transmissions, etc. Here's a post of a Claer-RUF Vanagon. you'll love this, ruf porsche built t3!! twin turb - The Brick-yard - Page 1 And a couple photos of my Van's engine compartment. Great thread! I saw one at the Ventura show last year STEALTHY to be sure. I think I need to start looking!

Who are you to tell others where to go, Mr 71 posts... And I am not even a "hater" or a "purest"... Quote:

Trying to keep the "911 Technical Forum" related to technical issues and Tweety floormats is hard enough without folks trying to make it the Vanagon Forum. Although it's fairly interesting, can we move this to OT?
|
Great thread! Lots of 911 engine technical information here :) We had several Westfalias growing up, and I learned to drive in one of these. Jim Newton of Auto Associates build a 911 engined bus and used it as a tow vehicle for track events.

+2, I'm a "hater" in the "purest" sense. But when it comes to Porsches, I guess you can call me a "purist". :D |

what kind of suspension & geometry was on that Bus (Splittie, Bay or Vanagon?) originally?
I didn't know the front susp. was so bad that a 911 would be a big improvement... |

From the rear bumper - looks like a pre 71 to me. So could be bay window or split window. -Jack |
WILL TRADE VAST KNOWLEDGE OF GLOBAL CAPITAL MARKETS AND DERIVATIVES FOR SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO FAB AND BUILD SOMETHING LIKE THOSE HERE.
ANY TAKERS? Since I walked away from Wall St I have no regrets aside from that I never learned the fantastic and useful skills some of you possess. The fab work and the skills in welding and mechanics in most of the projects on Pelican always make me jealous. I always wanted a hot rod bus. |
