Stupid Key Question
I recently bought an 84 carrera, it came with 3 different keys. 1 key was for the ignition, 1 key was for the factory alarm, and 1 was for the doors. Is this normal? Is it possible to have a key cut that works on both the doors and ignition?
Thanks, Tay |

Yes (no, not normal, yes, possible). Your doors may have been re-keyed at some time in the past. You will have to re-key your ignition or your doors to match the other.
And, there are no stupid questions here, just stupid answers...like this one. |

Actually, its is a bit more likely the ignition switch failed and rather than ordering a coded one, which takes 4-EVER and is more expensive, the previous owner elected the quicker/cheaper option.
As NineOhOne indicates, you can elect to have the doors coded to the ignition key, however, figure you will likely be charged about 1-1.5hrs per door min ($300+) for the effort. You will probably find you can survive inconvenience and put that $$$ to better use. ![]() |

I had the same issue. When the power window failed I had the doors re-keyed to the ignition. Glove-box also. Any competent locksmith can re-key the tumblers pretty cheap if you get them removed, which is easy if you remove the inside door panel. I think the good doctor intended one key to work everything.

The alarm key is always separate.

If your glove box or frunk release is the same as your door, it's very likely that the ignition switch was replaced. Most people wouldn't do those if they just had to do the doors.
