What fluid can I use to test fuel pumps
What fluid can I use to "SAFELY" test MFI or CIS fuel pumps?
I am reluctant to set up an area and pressurize the test equipment with Gas and 12 volts. any Ideas on what wouldn't wreck the pump? Lorne M.

Way back when I worked with fuel pumps, the electrics were tested with ******** Solvent at the factory prior to shipment. Similar flow as gas without quite the danger of using actual fuel. Still need rubberized gloves, though.
Mechanical pumps were just tested for air leaks and pressure.

What about Diesel?
Safe, cheap and clean... It would probably help clean out the fuel pump at the same time. (varnish)

I'm using mineral spirits to adjust the accelerator jet pumps on my carbs. It's still flammable, but not as flammable as gas and stinks less. Mineral Spirits has a similar specific gravity to gasoline.

Wonder what that is. Wikipedia says Paint thinner is a mineral spirit and used by painters as an alternative to turpentine.

hardware stores my label mineral spirits as paint thinner. It's not real auto body supply paint thinner so it's mostly tourist safe and brainless
