I'll be there from Friday on....I'm up for a meet. I'm flying in and renting @ MCO so I'll be Porscheless.
UPDATE 1/20/2010: We'll meet up at Ocean Deck restaurant on the beach Friday nite @ 6:30. Please post your name for Roll Call. I'll see if there is any way we can reserve a spot there once I have a headcount. http://www.oceandeck.com/ We can pick a time for the Pelican folks to meet up on Saturday at the track if you're interested-any suggestions? Race starts at 3:30pm, so maybe sometime about 1:00pm?

Great, let's pencil in for Saturday. I'm not sure how crazy local restaurants get or if there's a good spot at the track? I've got a hotel on the beach, but I figure Friday night is about the most I'll see it.

We might be there. We're still undecided. We're sponsoring/working at the 48 hours of Sebring the following weekend. It's either go hang out at the 24 Hours at Daytona or head over to Puerto Rico for a few days. We're going on 2 years now and the wife still hasn't gotten a honeymoon. I'm gonna let her decide.

Shane, it has been my experience that Grand-Am and ALMS races are both family friendly. The 24 has more of "a carnival" thrown in too, so I'd imagine that at 3:00am, one may see inebriated maniacs? I think it will be as safe as any sporting event with a large audience would be in this day and age.
Make sure you do get the pass that allows access to the garages. That would be awesome to a child (of any age).

Stay away from the "Shark Lounge" if it's still there...

I plan on being there. I'm retiring from the USAF next month and we're closing on our house Thursday in Rockledge, about an hour south of Daytona. I'll be towing my P-car from WA state next week and hope to get there by the Friday before the 24hrs. My Mom just happens to live in S. Daytona. Very convenient. Last time I attended the race was 1974 just before I joined the USAF, 35 years ago. Damn! I have a 911 because of that race.

Live in Port Orange/Daytona. Crowds usually not too bad at any place for the 24 compared to NASCAR stuff. Hopefully will be warmer! Along ISB and the track, are several places to meet like a Panera Bread Restaurant, the Ale House. PCA has a Porsche Paddock in the infield also could be a meeting area. I would like to put faces with the names here!

Possibly going. My college roomate lives in Daytona Beach, so I have a place to stay - just need to see if the Mrs. wants to go and try to find some reasonable tickets.

The Mrs is out, so likely going solo.
I have been to that track +20 times, but have always been for Nascar races. This will be my first 24 Hour race there. Can the expereinced ones provide pointers on how to make the best of it. I am likely going down Friday night or first thind Saturday morning and leaving on Monday. Thanks, Farrell

I want to encourage any/all who want to get involved to become ‘volunteer crew’ for one of the Porsche teams. This is the way to really enjoy the race. Yes, it makes for a very long day – about 38 hours. Depending on your job, you can nap or sleep.
Every team must rely on volunteers. No one brings enough people to be able to handle 24 hours plus. Even if your job is just taking tires between midnight and 8 AM, it is being involved that counts. One year I did it and we won overall. I never left the pit box for all 24. You can too. Best, Grady

Am going w/Britt, we'll be in the PCA Corral in his black 99 C4.
How about a get-together at the infield chili competition on Saturday afternoon? This will be our third year attending the cookoff, it is great fun.

Call all the teams in advance.
Arrange to meet them in the paddock. Don’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Yes, you will probably need to buy a pass. If you 'work a deal' with a team, you will get on the 'crew pass' list and have total access behind the wall. I would generally choose to NOT be 'over the wall' as there are way too many amateur/immature drivers. If you do get over the wall, be very alert and careful. It is a dangerous place. Drivers are much safer in their race car. Best, Grady
