928 Leather Shop Console Recover

Hi all,

While it's cold here in NYC and my Crohn's is in check I decided to get my center console repaired. I had damaged it while using a fire extinguisher bracket on the seat frame, slid the seat forward and cut the console.

I contacted Robert Budd at the 928 Leather Shop in regard to recovering the console in original German leather and was assued the console would be returned to me as new.

Since the interior of my 85 M491 is just about perfect I decided that I could no longer look at the damaged console. The car deserved to remain perfect.

The cost was not cheap, but the work is exceptional. Thanks Bob.

Have a look.

Bob recently did my dash and knee pads in leather for my 85 m491. The workmanship is spectacular and he's a gentleman to deal with. Doug

I too had Robert Budd do the center console for my 87 Carrera. It was done perfectly and will recommend him to anyone who needs leather work done. He is a very reputable guy and great person to talk to.
Getting the console out was a total PITA though!!!

Console was $385 plus shipping.

Not cheap but considering the fact that I could not find an NOS or perfect console in leather (which mine had been), it was the best alternative.

Taking out the console proved to be a major PITA! Getting it back in was easy.

Tip: Tape the console with blue painters tape on all edges, I did the whole console. Also, tape the seat rail leading edges, to prevent the sharp corners of the seat rails from damaging the console upon installation.

Like I said, the car deserved it. I put very little miles on the M491 and the car is in real close to perfect condition.

Now, the IROC Projekt, that's a different story.
