Assembled smog pump.........

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We got some 18" of snow last weekend and another storm coming tomorrow night. The picture below shows the assembled smog pump and everything you need is there except the belt which I could not locate at moment. ![]() The rust you see is just surface rust and the air pump turns very smoothly. I'll PM you about the shipping cost via FedEx. Just take care of the actual shipping costs the shipping company will charge and it will be on its way to your door step. Tony |

Smog pump installation..........
Ryan, The smog pump that I sent you is all set and ready for installation. Remove the the two (2) 1.5" bolts shown in the picture. And use the two existing long studs already installed in your engine. Unless you don't have these studs, then you need to have them. Could you take picture of the left side of your engine where this smog pump sits? If you could not find some reference pictures find someone who owns a car with a smog pump installed. The only part that is not obvious is the bracket that provides the needed belt tension. This bracket is mounted at the alternator stud (outer) and to the pump. Keep us posted. Tony |

the piece on the far right in the picture (the silver piece plugged into the black tube) you probably don't need, it's probably still on your car.
as tony said, it's just a matter of bolting it on. But, you do need the vacuum line to activate it. you should be able to see where that line plugs into the pump, then it runs to the throttle body. without the vacuum line hooked up, the pump won't work. |

I don't have a smog-equipped vehicle, but wouldn't you need a 2-sheave pulley to accomodate the extra belt needed to run the pump?

yes, but given that his car appears to have all the smog equipment on it, other than the pump, it's highly likely the person who took the pump off left the original pulley in place.
looking at the pics in the original post, whoever took the pump off did a very "quick and dirty" job of it, with very little attention to detail. For them to have removed the pulley is highly unlikely. Also, as I looked at the pictures again, luckily the guy left the vacuum line in place. It's the one that has a screw put in the end of it to plug it up. So, all he has to do it physically bolt the pump in place, which is pretty obvious how to do. The bracket goes over the three long studs that are plain to see. Bolt it down and everything automatically falls into place (if you get it bolted in, you have it installed correctly automatically). The pulley I have has the extra slot, so I should be ok there. With you're two replies guys, i'm starting to get a picture of how it goes on.
What confused me is that the bracket on the pump swings loose, plus I need to move all my plug wires out of the way to get this thing in there. Thanks for the replies.

See the black L shaped rubber hose with the big bolt shoved in the end of it (right between the long rusty studs).
You need to remove that off your car. The pump you got already has that part on it. ![]() |

What's funny is yesterday when I was looking around how this goes, I didn't realize til then that, that's a lug nut in that vacuum hose. That couldn't be airtight given the shape of the nut.

Pictutre of alternator pulley..........

Could you post a picture of your alternator pulley. You probably still have the double pulley that is needed for a smog pump. I could had easily thrown a double pulley in the box when I shipped the package. Keep us posted. Tony |

Ryan,
I just noticed from the picture attached by javadog that you need the 'J or L' shaped short bracket connected to the angular and the alternator stud. You could simply fabricate one at home easily. The angle bracket is about 1" by 3" long and 3/16" or 1/8" thickness flatbar would work fine. Tony |

I do have that mounting bracket/bot on the fan housing. I guess I'll try to go to a machine shop to see if they can fab something up.

If you run across the j shaped bracket let me know. It would sure make things simpler if I had the right piece. In a flat rate box it could only be a couple bucks, I'll pay the shipping for the simplicity of having that piece. Let me know if you can find it. Thanks a lot.
