Weight !
Dumb Question !
![]() Im curious how much does a stock 82-83 SC weigh. I always get different answers when looking it up on the web. Also...how much does a stock Vram 993 weigh. Im planning an engine swap and im looking for the weight differences i will incure. But i also have to account for the extra 100 lbs that the G50 transmission will account for. Any Thoughts ! ![]() |

my suggestion would be to go to your local scale and just drive on and see what it come out to. other than that you will always get best guesses on what it weighs. there are so many differences from car to car I.E. sunroof etc.

Sc to 83 was about 2750 pounds, the 993 was 3020 pounds. But I'm thinking you are wanting to know the weight of just the engine?
I just called motomeister and they said about 450 pounds is the weight of the 3.0SC. and the 3.6 litre 993 is approximately the same weight. If your thinking about weight bias front to back ratios, I'd say they seem to be near the same. There is some guys on here though that probably know the differences down to the ounce! |

Porsche 993 Transmission Charts
here is a cool chart showing differences in gearing and how it helps the 993 MPH. The RS1 gear gets you to almost 50 miles an hour in 1st gear! That would be a lot of fun |

Hi there, Idar211;
I think 100lbs. extra weight for a G-50 compared to a 915 is a bit pessimistic; more like 50lbs. I would say. Still, a hefty penalty. Having said that; are you aware of the fact that an SC bodyshell needs some pretty heavy surgery before it wil accept a G-50?

Oh Lord, I hope this doesn't end up being another Motomeister bashing.

As far as durability, PAG used the 915 derived transaxles in their race cars for many years!

why not just buy a 964? solves most of your problems
a shop (in Nashville?) converted the body to look exactly like the Early cars ("longhood") that will give you a more modern suspension system and wider tires as well as a stiffer body shell, which weighs little more than the shell of an early car |
