993 Mirrors

I am reworking a 74 911. It is going to be my hot rod. I have purchased a pair of
993 "aero" mirrors (came from a 95 911) to install on the car. I need to take them apart for stripping and painting etc. And need a pattern as to where to drill the mounting holes in the door skins. The passenger side never had a mirror and the drivers side is getting a new skin so I am okay there.

Does anyone have a set of drawings showing 1) how to disassemble the mirror (s)?, and 2) where to position the holes in the doors?, OR have a suggestion as to where I might find the information?

Thanks....

Dale Flesburg

take a piece of paper, cardboard, etc and trace the back of the mount. Mark your holes, etc and you have your template. For placement, just tape the mirror on and find the spot you like best (typically near the original mounting spot). Measure some reference points and put up your template. Reverse the template for the other side.

Mount them where your existing flag mirrors are mounted. Then sit in the driver's seat and you'll probably find that the 993 mirrors work well that way.

The right mirror is several inches forward of the other. Yes, sit in the drivers seat and have a helper move the right mirror around till you can see it.

The car is being stripped for painting as we speak. The interior is out of the car. I was hoping to have the body shop drill the mirror mounting holes, paint the mirrors and then do the assembly for me. I can take the drivers seat to his shop and we can visually locate the mirrors, unless someone has a pattern that lines up with the leading and top edge of the door.

Secondly, I want to get the mirror out of the housing and to get the housing apart so that we do not get paint all over the rubber piece that exists between the lower part and the upper part.

Any one have assembly/disassembly instructions?

Dale

there should be one bolt that has a spring that holds the assembly togeather, look up inside the mirror mount. It might take a 12 point bit or just an allen. Should be hollow. check the parts guide for a picture of how all the parts fit togeather.
